🚨 Half Strange Presents: Molly Nilsson Live in Adelaide 🚨
We’re beyond excited to announce that visionary Berlin-based DIY synth-pop artist Molly Nilsson is coming to Adelaide for an exclusive live performance at The Lab on Sunday, February 23rd! 🌙
Cult pop icon Molly Nilsson has captivated listeners worldwide with her evocative music and boundary-pushing DIY approach to synth-pop. Known for her raw, self-produced soundscapes and politically charged lyrics, Nilsson’s latest album Un-American Activities dives into themes of surveillance, control, and resistance, drawing on the dystopian and anti-authoritarian sentiments of the current global climate. The album blends her signature melancholic yet empowering melodies, offering a commentary on the creeping sense of unease and societal fragmentation. It’s a sonic exploration of personal and collective autonomy in a world increasingly defined by division and surveillance.

Molly will be joined by Naarm based @punko_infinity_ for their debut Adelaide performance!
Punko creates electronic music that fuses elements of pop, ambient and post-punk together, creating a rich and hypnotic soundscape of synths and layered vocal harmonies.
Since releasing their debut album Plants Singing in 2022, they are currently exploring a lo-fi approach to dance music in their production and performance. Punko’s latest body of work explores the spectrum of isolation and connection, the ocean, the esoteric and evokes a feeling of fertile new-life energy.

It’s out!! Oratunga 16 musicians, 12 tracks, recorded on Adnyamathanha country in the Flinders Ranges almost a year ago ♥️ Everything you hear was recorded in a dusty old shearing shed, windmill looking on, three dogs in tow, during the Half Strange Outback Tour. Purchase of the album includes 3 bonus tracks, and all proceeds will be donated towards procuring e-sims for Gazans on the ground. Link in bio!!!
A new and previously unreleased Workhorse song, ‘Changing of the light’ is reworked by the Oratunga Choir during a series of impromptu and unrehearsed recording sessions while in residency on Oratunga Station (Adnyamathanha Lands).
Presented here as the first track from the upcoming fundraiser album ‘Oratunga Station Compilation’ featuring 15 tracks of collaborative improvisations from Half Strange Tour of ‘23.
‘Changing of the light’ is a seasonal lament written during the beginnings of a long winter spent in the Adelaide Hills, transformed from demo to live recording in the unused shearing shed on Oratunga Station with vocals and guitar by Harriet Fraser-Barbour, additional guitar by Emma Russack, bass by Sienna Thornton, drums by Tam Higgins, violin by Skye McNicol and backing vocals by the Oratunga Choir (Danika, Jess Johns, Nika Mo, Keeskea, Punko).
All recordings on the Oratunga Residency Compilation were recorded, mixed and mastered by Annika Moses (Great Statue, Nika Mo.)

Presenting ‘Oratunga Station Compilation’ - a 15 track album of improvised collaborative recordings made during the Half Strange residency on Oratunga Station, featuring unreleased songs, acoustic reimaginings and wild genre-swap mashups spanning from folk and electronica to ambient soundscapes.
In October 2023, Half Strange Outback Tour (presented by Half Strange and Dinosaur City Records and Heaps Normal) took 16 musicians by convoy through the desert of South Australia and New South Wales, stopping on Oratunga Station on the lands of the Adnyamathanha people for a five day residency.
From there, a dusty disused shearing shed was transformed into makeshift rehearsal and recording studio, and new artistic experimentations were forged over the following days between residency artists;
Punko [Thurrural], Silvia [Naarm], Workhorse [Tarndanya], Emma Russack [Naarm], Nika Mo [Boorloo], Great Statue [Boorloo], Scraps [Meanjin], Elmo Aoyama [Eora], Keeskea [Tarndanya], Danika [Naarm], and Jess Johns [Tarndanya].
Oratunga Station Compilation is released in FULL on September 9, 2024 with all proceeds raised from the sale of this album donated directly towards the purchase of much needed Esims for Gazans on the ground.
3 exclusive bonus tracks are included with every bandcamp purchase! Preorder now through link in bio.
Catch a sneak preview of the first single from upcoming album ‘Workhorse - Changing of the light’ on @3rrrfm with @lauren_and_simon this afternoon!
