Our community 🧡 You’ve probably noticed we’ve been having a few birthday events to celebrate turning 10 this year. Back in August, we organised a birthday get together for our community members and special friends. It was so special to bring together team members past and present along with community members from across the entire timeline of HH. There was a huge amount of love in the room as some of us shared what Hackney Herbal means to us. We had a delicious Palestinian feast cooked for us by Mayya from @bidchenkitchen and 2 beautiful cakes made by Iva @cornflower_e5 It’s these moments which really remind us why we do the work that we do even when it’s felt quite hard over the last few years navigating the post brexit, post covid, cost of living crisis landscape. Combined with a state of the world that makes it harder and harder to feel inspired, optimistic and motivated. Being together like this reinforces how special and supportive our little community is and is the best medicine for the times we are in. Thank you to everyone who has been involved along the way. Hackney Herbal is what it is because of you. 💚🧡

Making Herbal Vinegars 🌿 Last week we had a lovely time in the garden celebrating #EarthDay and making spring tonics with our Nature Club. Infusing fresh herbs is a lovely way to preserve them at their seasonal best. We used a mixture of different herbs including cleavers, nettle, calendula, mint, rosemary, 3-cornered leek and bay. 🌿 To make an infused vinegar all you need to do is fill a clean glass jar roughly half full with any mix of fresh edible herbs and then cover with vinegar. We like apple cider vinegar for all the added health benefits. Leave your herbs to infuse for about 2-3 weeks shaking every few days and then strain out the herbs. You can use the vinegar in cooking or dilute a few spoonfuls in hot water with lemon and honey. Can’t west to strain out these ones in a few weeks! 🌸🌿

A long walk, shared knowledge, and time together On Tuesday we spent the afternoon exploring the woodland around Hackney Wick with @hackneyherbal learning about local herbs, urban foraging, and the stories held within the landscape. From identifying plants to simply being present in nature, it was a chance to step outside the day-to-day and spend meaningful time together. Thanks hackney herbal for holding the space. Together there is a way #community #recovery #hackneywick #urbannature #foraging

A lovely evening in the resident lounge at Hone Dalston. Recently, we hosted a herb planting event with @hackneyherbal bringing residents together for a relaxed and engaging session filled with great conversation, practical tips and plenty of inspiration to take home. Karen did a brilliant job organising the event, making sure the atmosphere felt warm, positive and connected throughout. It was great to see residents so engaged, asking questions, sharing thoughts and fully embracing the experience. These are the moments that help turn a building into a real community. #HomeByHone #ResidentExperience #CommunityLiving #Dalston #ResidentEvents
