We’re so excited to be launching the FibreLab X The Revival Collaboration this weekend at our Artisanal Wonders pop-up The Revival is a community-led organisation, founded by Yayra Agbofah, creating awareness, art, and jobs with upcycled global textile waste that arrives in Ghana. During FibreLab’s recent trip to Accra and following a visit to The Revival’s studio we instantly began exploring ways to collaborate, after being inspired by the incredible ingenuity and dedication to tackling textile waste. This limited edition collection of upcycled kimonos was collaboratively designed and made from discarded second-hand clothes from Kantamanto Market that have been diverted from landfill. These discarded textiles have been reimagined by The Revival’s tailors through patchwork to retain their value and bring new life to used clothing. Made in The Revival’s studio in Kantamanto Market, each kimono is one-of-a-kind and carries a story of innovation and circularity.  Join us at our Artisanal Wonders pop-up this weekend to be the first to shop The Revival X FibreLab collection. We can’t wait for you to see it. #upcycling #reimaginedmaterials #circularfashion #consciousgifting

Growing up in post-Soviet Ukraine, there was never really enough of anything, including clothes. Wearing hand-me-downs from an older sister or brother was just normal life. When I started earning my own money, something shifted. Fast fashion brands were opening everywhere in Ukraine, and I went a little overboard 😅 After a while, I had this thought: what’s the point of buying another «plastic» t-shirt that falls apart after three washes? Turns out: around 92 million tonnes of textile waste are created every year globally. That’s roughly one truckload of clothes dumped or burned every single second. And in Europe, up to 9% of textiles are destroyed before anyone even wears them. That’s the starting point of this episode of #TheChangesWeMake My guest is Kaela Katz, founder of @fibrelab in London. @kaekatz studied fashion design, worked in fast fashion in New York, and was the person approving or rejecting fabric orders. She was part of a system creating waste at scale, and nobody really had an answer for what happened to all the rejected materials afterwards. That question eventually led her to London, to studying Fashion Futures, and later to building FibreLab - a studio transforming textile waste into new materials. We talked about: • what it feels like to watch waste get made from inside the industry • burning out a couple of years in, and how she rebuilt • why being a little bit delusional is probably necessary if you want to build anything meaningful • and why becoming “10% better” imperfectly and together - matters much more than waiting for perfect solutions 🎧 Link in bio #sustainability #circularfashion #textilerecycling #slowfashion

Last Wednesday, we hosted our Textile Recycling Workshop at the FibreLab Studio ♻️ A fantastic hands-on session with an amazing group of attendees. We even had someone travel all the way from Dublin to join us for the evening. 🙏 We had professionals from fashion companies like @insidejigsaw and @changeclothesdublin , a tutor from @goldsmithsuol , students from the @universitycollegedublin and @ucl , as well as other inspiring, independent creatives learning and sharing resources about recycling. Together, we explored the textile recycling process, from disassembling fabrics to analysing their fibre composition through flame testing. After a live demo of our shredding process, we opened up the conversation around how these materials could be recycled in different ways to transform textile waste, hearing more about our attendees’ own inspiring ideas.💡 Thank you to Sean, Jessica, Smilika, Varsha, Harriet and Tanya, who joined us and brought such energy, curiosity and creativity to the FibreLab studio! 💚 Join us for our next workshop on the 27th May! While we feel sad to see the Loop’s warehouse close, its impact has gone far beyond its walls. The Loop has been such an instrumental part of FibreLab’s journey, and over the years, it has become more than just a venue. It’s been a space for shared purpose and collaboration, and has held immense value in allowing us to connect with the local community and learn from other sustainable practices. It was wonderful to see both familiar and new faces as we gathered to say a final farewell to the Loop. We were also delighted to be part of the closing exhibition, sharing some of our sustainable materials and products 🌱. We are excited to continue working with @wickcdt and the wider community in the future 🌟🤝 #hackneywick #circulardesign #textilerecycling
