We've never believed a studio is just a place to work. It's a space from which to take inspiration, to connect with likeminded people, and ultimately to enjoy outside of working hours.
At Hackney Downs Studios, creativity is sparked beyond the walls of a studio. It spills into shared spaces, emerges from a casual conversation after work, and takes shape when you're about to unwind. It’s about being a part of a network of artists, designers, producers and independent businesses, each bringing something different to a wider community.
Because the best work doesn't happen in isolation.
Hackney Downs Studios presents: Convergent Matter.
Coming up at Hackney Downs Studios, 16 of our resident artists come together for a group exhibition that celebrates the physical act of making through an exploration of topics and ideas including mathematics, relationships and urban satire.
You’re invited to step inside to explore a world showcasing how side-by-side processes inevitably affect each other in the alchemy of a shared studio environment. Where the “matter” of each practice converges through collective proximity, revealing threads between the work when they are exhibited together.
Across oil painting, photography, lino print, graphic design and repurposed industrial materials discover the many artistic styles and practices living within the studios here.
Not one to miss. See you there📍 RSVP in bio link 🔗
Opening night | Thursday 28th May | 6pm to 9pm
Exhibition open daily until Friday 18th June | 10am to 6pm
INTRODUCING the Hackney Downs Studios foyer.
If you've come by recently, chances are you've stepped inside our newly evolved foyer space or spotted the elevated front of house desk (and occasional DJ booth) crafted from a single uninterrupted piece of Portuguese limestone.
In a building intentionally layered to support creative life: studios, wellness spaces, bars, retail and restaurants, we set out to design something that united these elements. A welcoming multifunctional and considered foyer that stretches beyond a place of arrival into an extension of our buildings ecosystem. Now brought to life through material, layout, palette and function.

A spring afternoon spent at Clay Collective, the artist founded shared ceramics studio and project space set at street level in Hackney Downs Studios.
Founded back in 2016 to support makers working with clay, Clay Collective’s development programme, events and projects are shaped by both hands on practice and a deep understanding of ceramics as a discipline built on decades of experience.
Their open and light filled studio reflects a beautiful living archive. Including pieces made from clay straight off Hackney Downs Studios very own soil.

The right space changes everything. Different spaces draw out different aspects of who we are, that's the philosophy behind @houseofdre._ award winning interior design studio by Andreas Christodoulou, whose architectural training informs a multidisciplinary practice spanning interiors, furniture and sculptural design, based here at Hackney Downs Studios.
We took a dive into their recent collaboration with @tomspasta and the role its East London setting plays in their work.

I am so excited to launch my new project, Young Falconers.
Young Falconers explores the ancient art of training birds of prey.
Steeped in tradition, falconry is often associated with masculine power and status. This project explores the young women who are redressing the balance and subverting these traditions.
Focussing on the unique relationship between human and bird of prey, one which requires respect, trust and skill, this body of work reflects a growing fascination with the ways that traditions are inherited and reshaped over time.
Thank you Connie, Elsie and Naomi for allowing me into your world and for your trust 💘
& a huge thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible 🦅💛
