Uro Publications is excited to announce the release of Transformative Repair by Guy Keulemans, launching at Melbourne Design Week. The world is in a waste crisis. Each year Australia alone generates 75 million tonnes of waste—much of it broken goods that are repairable, but discarded anyway. Transformative Repair makes an urgent, visually rich case that designers and craftspeople are uniquely positioned to respond: not by bringing objects back to their original condition, but by reimagining them entirely. Designer Guy Keulemans documents a series of ambitious collaborative projects conducted across institutions from featured artists and designers including Jane Bowden, David Caon, Andrew Carvolth, Adam Goodrum, Benja Harney, Kyoko Hashimoto, Trent Jansen, Peta Kruger, Kay Lawrence, Lucy McRae, Tom Moore, Johnny Nargoodah, Blanche Tilden, the Campana Brothers, and more… Transformative Repair is both a scholarly argument and a practical guide, charting how skilled professionals can redirect their expertise towards the revival of damaged and obsolete objects—furniture, homewares, textiles, electronics. In doing so, they challenge the logic of a linear economy built on breakage and replacement, and propose a compelling alternative—a culture of conservation, care, and creative transformation. - Featured work in post by @trentjansenstudio Johnny Nargoodah @jordanleeflang @xanthemurphy @guykeulemans @studio_kyoko_hashimoto Portraits of @andrewcarvolth @coutrneyjacksonjewellery @melvin.josy @bolajiteniola @serawaters @xanthemurphy Photography by @connorpphotography @alexandermrobertson @transformativerepair @guykeulemans @adelaideuni @usefulobjectsgallery @andrew_a_mackenzie @booksatmanic @ideabooksnl

Paperchain no. 2, feral olive tree, 2026 (process images). Paper and dye made from invasive olive tree (Olea europaea subsp. europaea), eucalyptus dye, methyl cellulose binder We created Paperchain no. 2 to continue our explorations of the materials, ecology and design opportunities within our garden in the Adelaide Hills. Feral olive trees (Olea europaea subsp. europaea), a fast-growing, invasive plant in Australia, pose a significant fire hazard due to their dense and low foliage. While the terpenes of eucalyptus ignite more quickly, oil-rich olive tree bushes create a ‘ladder fuel’ effect, one that pushes scrub fires up from the ground to the canopy. Olive tree branches were harvested, stripped and processed into paper. A dye was extracted from the leaves of the tree, while an additional, darker, dye was made from eucalyptus leaves. The work aligns with bioregional design principles and place-based making practices but is informed by animist sensibilities. The human labour integral to paper-making, sculpting and dyeing are acts of embodiment whose aim is to enter into haptic and para-sensory relation with the plant, coaxing into emergence the face of a spirit, a crafted entity with agency to bio-cognitively signal to species in its environment. This work is currently showing at Felled, an exhibition at Craft Victoria — presented as part of Melbourne Design Week 2026. Artists include Andy Ward, Bolaji Teniola, Craig Murphy-Wandin, Jess Humpston and Mark Lilly. 2 May – 27 June 2026 #MelbourneDesignWeek #NGV @NGVMelbourne @craftvictoria @gallerysallydancuthbert
