š³š²PROUD!!!š³š² My first stereoscopic sculpture is on display at
@make.shiftartspace in Bellingham, WA! š„³
Itās also my first time being invited to contribute a *visual* artwork for a gallery exhibit, so Iām really excited!
You can see it all August, starting Friday the 1st during Artwalk. The show runs alongside the Radio Forever Festival (Aug 9, free!) featuring Negativland.

My enthusiasm for stereoscopic art surprised me in 2022, when I found myself accidentally crashing a meeting of the
@la3dclub .
They welcomed me like I belonged, and āalthough I didnāt even know what stereoscopy was before that nightā Iāve felt at home in it ever since. Itās become a great playground for combining many of my interests, and lets me add āillusionistā to my bag of tricks (a dream come true!).
I started with stereoscopic photography, then added 3-D illustrations and animations. (See ā3-Dā highlights on my profile.)
But Iād been wanting to try stereoscopic sculptureā an idea I figured must exist, but hadnāt seen done quite the way I imagined. With no direct role models, I just leaned on my inspiration: the Museum of Jurassic Technology and
@ellingson.tv . I wasnāt sure when/how to try it... but then came this show! Perfect moment to create this piece, called "Beyond Presets."
The way it works is not new, but the way I've combined everything feels like... *if* others are doing this the way I am, no oneās tooting their horn the way Iām, personally, inclined to (after all the devotion that went into imagining + engineering it)! š
In this piece, the left eye sees one sculpture, the right sees another. A 3-D animation floats midair. Your brain fuses it all into one illusory, moving 3-D event. Magical.
Sadly, you canāt capture the 3-D effect in photos. (Phones only use one "eye" at a time, so you are only getting half the gist.) But Iāll still share some mood shots from the gallery + making-of. Come see it in person!
