When this single dropped, we weren’t sure if it’d be a one-off—and probably, neither were you. But after getting together to write and perform in May, and our Artist in Residence stint at @lookoutartsquarry last fall, we’ve been quietly building something bigger: an album of ~8 songs that’s really close to being finished now, and we’re aiming for a release ASAP.
We thought we’d be heading into mix/master stage of this album by now, but life threw us a few big curveballs in the meanwhile, like relocating Gwen internationally (from Amsterdam to Bellingham) to fix our “long-distance band problems”… which is kind of a big undertaking. But hey, we’re officially an IRL duo now, working in the same timezone (!), which is definitely bound to make year 2 of this project pretty interesting.

About the music:
Singable melodies that get tugged a little left or right of center by harmony of a higher resolution than you hear in most pop music.
This is created by the use of 31 equal divisions of the octave (31-edo), a tuning system where the smallest step size is 38.7 cents, as compared to the 100 cent semitone in standard 12-edo tuning (where there are just 12 notes per octave).
While most of the harmony of the song is consonant, with color-altered versions of chords and melodies we might encounter in 12-edo, we often shift between sonorities using the 38.7c step to accentuate their inherent expressive differences.

🏆Cathartic presentation at @lookoutartsquarry !!🏆 Ended up with EIGHT Scraps Fiasco songs to share with the community at the residency.
Gwen and Bruce originally got acquainted through a conversation about microtonality, so it’s only natural that at least 3 of these tracks will be partially or entirely in ★⋆𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇𝑒𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝓊𝓃𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈⋆★. You can hear a tiny glimpse of what that sounds like in this clip, which contains a sneak preview of the new song “Turnstile” (work in progress).
