You left a behind a system of belief, but it’s still humming in the background. ⛪️💭 Certain thoughts, half-formed fears, old rules... still running like an app you could’ve sworn you uninstalled. The rational part of you —your conscious mind— has bravely rejected things that didn’t add up. But even long after deconstructing a system of belief (be it religious, political, or otherwise), there’s a part of you that insists it’s important to keep those old programs from ever quite hitting the trash — your subconscious mind. It says: “No! These were vital. They kept us acceptable. Without them, nightmarish punishment may yet await. Better safe than sorry.” In other words, if your subconscious still believes safety lives inside a certain set of conditions, difficulties after deconstruction may persist. For example: • Trouble setting boundaries • Words or songs that replay in your mind, even when their message upsets you • Doubting your intuition/ needing external confirmation • Knowing you’re good, yet still questioning your motives • Feeling cut off from meaning or purpose And underneath it all, a complex mix of feelings: ▴ Guilt when you follow your own desires — and anger you were ever led to feel you shouldn’t! ▴ Doubt that you can be trusted w/ decisions — and grief you went so long without practice! ▴ Fear of punishment — and shame that you still feel that fear! If you relate, try this: ⏸️ Pause. 🤔Get curious. 💭 Imagine life free of those old conditions. … What if the voice you trust most was effortlessly your own? … What if nothing inside you felt at odds anymore — just an easy harmony between mind, body & spirit? You might notice it already — that first deep exhale of freedom. Let’s get you there 👉with Hypnotherapy. In hypnosis, your mind learns new associations — unlinking “safety” from past limiting beliefs, and linking it to ones you prefer, e.g., self-trust, autonomy, living your unique purpose... You keep what still nourishes you & easily, gently release what no longer does. Still time to do a 180º on this before 2026 by booking a free consult by Nov 8. Link in bio! (Consults after that will start you in sessions in January: also good!)

Those chronic headaches, fatigue, stomach or other issues that persist no matter what you try — have you ruled everything out with your doctor? If yes, this post is for you. I went through it, too. For 21 years, no amount of endless tests or medical treatments ever helped my chronic illness. Then I found hypnosis. (More on that in a sec!) But MAN, it takes a toll. Maybe you relate?: • Dread around triggers • Fear of unpredictable flares • Loneliness from isolation • Anger at the unfairness of constant discomfort — and at being told you’re fine when you’re not (like ‘scusé MOI?) • Hopelessness that symptoms may always control your life • Buried emotions your body expresses for you In the comments, I’ll share how this works in your brain (✨yay, neuroscience!✨) But since you’re obviously *beyond ready* at this point to transform this and get your body and life BACK... let’s cut to the good stuff: ⏸ Pause. 🤔 Get curious. 💭 Imagine feeling free and safe in your body... ... What’s something you’ve wanted to do for a long time? (Really take a sec to fully envision doing and feeling it.) ... What if calm confidence in your body was a given? ... What would become possible then? That comfort and improved quality of life can be your new reality 👉 through hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is what finally freed me from chronic migraines. Not the physical therapy, acupuncture, diet restrictions, medications, 31 needles of Botox to the scalp every few months, etc etc. Those didn’t work because, while the pain was very real, and very in my body, the solution turned out to be *in my mind.* In hypnosis, your brain learns to quiet false alarms so your body can finally relax, recover, and get moving freely again — in safety and confidence. Book a free consultation before Nov 8 to secure your session before my year-end break. Start 2026 ready to rock. —— (IMPORTANT: Hypnosis isn’t a cure for injury or disease. Always seek medical care for your physical ailments first. At consult, we will discuss if your circumstance requires a doctor referral and how to attain one.)

It’s the end of the day and you wanna relax, so what do you end up doing? Whyyy, binging the same three classics again, of course: “Should’ve” “Could’ve” and “What’ll Go Wrong Next?” 📺 This is your life on .·✩·.¸¸.·¯⍣✩ rumination ✩⍣¯·.¸¸.·✩·. Rumination is your brain overusing its problem-solving network. It’s a squirrel that refuses to give up on cracking a nut… but the nut’s made of plastic and has very little nutritional value 😖 Rumination can make you: • Replay conversations long after their done • Imagine worst-case outcomes • Waste brain space trying to avoid or fix mistakes • Lose sleep on endless “what if’s” How it can feel: ▴ Anxiety/ racing thoughts ▴ Shame that you can’t “just stop thinking” ▴ Regret. On repeat. ▴ Hopelessness that Future-You will always be as disappointed in Present-You… as Present-You is in Past-You (IYKYK) You’d think all the “self-reflection” would help you find a more zen way to be in your body, emotions, relationships, mind, or spirit, right? But it’s doing the opposite. It keeps you in constant stress! If you’re sick of it, try this: ⏸ Pause. 🤔 Get curious. 💭 Imagine life released from the thought loops… ...What if contentment and calm were your default? ...What possibilities arise with more mental space for insight, creativity, and momentum? ...What if you effortlessly trust you’ll make the most of whatever you choose, so decisions are cinchy? Hypnotherapy makes it possible 👉 a life where you think it over once, take what’s useful, & move on. In hypnosis, patterns in your brain can be upgraded. Subconscious loops that caused rumination can learn a calm new default instead, where thoughts flow adaptively and flexibly, and you experience new freedom. If you’ve been stuck with this a long time, then I don’t know if it’s easy for you to imagine living so differently. I just know a 180 change on this is within reach through hypnosis. So in case you didn’t know that already... well, ta-da: you learn something new every day! 🤗 Ready for the past and future to stop taunting you? You can still request a free consultation before Nov 8 to transform your life before my year-end break — link in bio.

This one’s for the overachievers in the sport of people-pleasing. 🏅 You bend over backward for everyone and keep putting your own needs on the back-burner for “later.” But let’s be honest: “later” is a pot of gold that vanishes the closer you think you’re getting. People-pleasing usually starts early as a survival skill — a way to avoid rejection by staying within someone else’s definition of “acceptable.” Somewhere along the line, your brain absorbed a message that keeping others happy = safety. You might even justify it with thoughts like, “I’m just being considerate,” or “What I wanted wasn’t that important anyway.” But what if it’s just a habit that you can break wherever it’s no longer serving you? Because when it keeps your own goals “out there” on the horizon, it turns into self-neglect. And when you edit yourself so no one gets uncomfortable, they never get to meet the real you. What people-pleasing can look like: • Saying “yes” when you meant “no” • Avoiding conflict at all costs • Prioritizing everyone’s peace but your own What it may feel like: ▴ Exhaustion — constantly managing others’ stress so they stay happy ▴ Resentment — living with the sense of being taken advantage of ▴ Emptiness — unsure about your true wants, opinions, and preferences ▴ Grief — that it seems no one really knows you It’s okay. You were just trying to stay safe! And it worked for a bit. But if any of this hits home, try a little thought experiment: ⏸ Pause. 🤔 Get curious. 💭 Imagine life free of this “pleaser” reflex... ...Your “no” lands cleanly, and you remain loved. ...Your “yes” is charged with real enthusiasm. ...You feel free expressing what’s true for you. ...You know in your bones you’ll be fine, even if someone’s a little miffed at you. That’s the reality 👉 after hypnotherapy. In hypnosis, your brain learns a new way to think and feel. It unlinks safety from being liked and connects it instead to authenticity & self-respect, so you can live a life that feels how you want it to. Ready to leave the hyperflexibility to the acrobats? Book a free consultation before Nov 8 to grab one of my final pre-holiday spots — link in bio, or comment “consult”!

Ever feel like you can’t stop sabotaging yourself? What’s that all about?! Turns out, many behaviors that look like self-sabotage actually start as self-protection — subconscious defense mechanisms originally developed to manage perceived threats in early life (Schauenburg et al., 2014). The same happens in the body. Neurological research shows that, in your body’s effort to keep you safe, physical symptoms (like pain or fatigue) can be active as the nervous system guards against potential danger (Kashikar-Zuck et al., 2021). In both mind & body, when self-protection hasn’t kept up with our evolving needs and wants as we grow and change, it can start to hold us back. Examples: • Heightened defensiveness that sparks needless conflict • Procrastination that leads to missed opportunities • Chronic pain that limits freedom and peace • Constant self-criticism that keeps you in fight-or-flight, drains energy, and erodes self-trust Painful emotions that can follow: ▴ Shame over reactions beyond your control ▴ Frustration that, even when you know what to do, you can’t change ▴ Disappointment that peace and confidence still feel out of reach If this sounds familiar, try this experiment to regain some hope: ⏸ Pause 💭 Imagine life *free* of your “self-sabotage” 🤔 Double your curiosity about it, asking... ... What does the effortless absence of the issue feel like? ... What becomes possible now that wasn’t before? (E.g., constant self-criticism: imagine your new default is effortless non-judgment and support toward yourself. Can you feel your shoulders relax as you give yourself a break? What can you now put your freed-up energy, focus, and calmness toward?) I don’t know if you find it easy to visualize this alternate reality, I just know that it’s groovy as heck that that life of possibility and 𝓻𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓮𝓯 is available to you ☞ through hypnotherapy. In hypnosis, you’ll retrain your protective parts to serve the highest good of who you are *now,* aligned with your current life and vision, freeing you from old routines. I have limited openings before 2026, so if you’re ready to stop fighting your own defenses, book a free consult by Nov 8 to secure your spot!

🧠✨🩵 Heads-up! I’ve got space for 1–2 new hypnotherapy clients before my December travels. Just imagine: by the end of next month, you’re 180º from an issue you’ve been suffering with—heading in a whole new direction into 2026. It starts with a free consultation: highlight-hypnosis.com/consultation - link in bio) Most people know hypnosis helps stop smoking 🚬 — but many are unaware it’s just as powerful for *emotional* and *mental* “bad habits” that quietly drain your time and energy, causing ongoing, useless stress. Phobias, anxiety, indecisiveness, approval-seeking, defensiveness, lack of confidence… these inner habits can be just as limiting as outward ones like smoking, snacking, or nail-biting — and all are quittable with hypnotherapy. 💖 Five areas I especially love helping people shift: 1. Outdated self-protection that plays out as self-sabotage 2. People-pleasing or shrinking yourself to “keep others comfortable” 3. Rumination, regret loops, and future fears 4. Chronic emotional or physical pain 5. Difficulties after religious deconstruction Many clients start hypnotherapy barely able to imagine who they’d be without their struggles — but they know it must be possible. In their very 1st session, they effortlessly discover and set foot on their new journey as the version of themselves they’ve been longing to be. Most notice improvement in their daily lives after that 1st session, and lasting transformation typically follows within just a few more. I encourage you to just let yourself feel curious about the opportunities and benefits that would enter your life if you didn’t have to deal with your biggest struggle anymore. Over the next few days, I’ll post more about each of these 5 themes — so if one hits home, keep an eye out for “yours.” 🗓 If you’re ready to regain control and hope for a road ahead that is different from the one behind you, grab one of the remaining spots and step into 2026 light, free, and more friggin’ proud of yourself than ever!

Before becoming a hypnotherapist, I spent years as a musician and artist — and those threads still run through everything I do. This summer, I showed a piece called Beyond Presets at @make.shiftartspace here in Bellingham. It’s a stereoscopic sculpture built inside a diorama, with a 3D animation that floats, seemingly in mid-air (thanks to some playful practical effects). Beyond Presets uses radio as a model for the mind: we all have presets we tune into automatically (habits, emotions, thought patterns), but it’s also always possible to scan the dial and find new channels. In fact, that is exactly what hypnosis makes possible! Since this piece feels like such a kindred spirit to my work at Highlight Hypnosis, I decided I will have it on display during my Open House this Friday, Oct 3! So if you missed the exhibit, here’s your chance to see it. Art itself can be very hypnotic. Not only when we create it, but also when we observe it. Art acts as a mirror, helping us discover what our minds are ready to explore — which makes it the perfect fit for showing at this special event at my practice. ✨ Bonus: Oct 3 is also Bellingham’s routine first Friday Art Walk! ✨ I’m so pleased to be stepping into a community that’s already thriving, bustling, and artistic! Why not start your Friday evening of gallery-hopping here, with Beyond Presets and me, then head out to explore the rest of town’s hypnotic, creative treasures? See you Friday! (Details in pinned comment.)

🍬This may sound random, but when I pictured my dream office, I knew it had to have a bowl of cinnamon taffy in it. Back in college, when I first experienced real independence, I’d drive across Seattle just to buy this candy. It was a little thing, but it made me feel in charge of my own life in the best way. To this day, one piece instantly reconnects me to that feeling. In hypnosis, we call that an “anchor”: something that automatically brings you into a specific state of mind. For me, cinnamon taffy is an anchor for a sense of capable agency. 💗 I knew I wanted that quality in my office — not just as a reminder for myself, but as a symbol of the positive states I help my clients anchor into their own lives. And there’s another layer to this candy bowl for me. If you’ve been following along, you know I switched professions after 25 years as a career musician to become a hypnotherapist. It was anxiety-inducing, a massive challenge to my sense of identity. But once I discovered the “big, scary” desire was there, I did what I had to do to make it real. When I first sketched the floorplan for this office, I even drew a bowl of cinnamon taffy on the coffee table. It felt important enough to include then, and now it’s here in real life. That makes it an upgraded anchor: not just a reminder of capability and agency, but also of power — the power to turn vision into reality. For me, that candy bowl is evidence that when I say “yes” to my vision and desires for my life, I am capable of making big changes, even when they feel scary or uncertain. And that’s exactly what I help my clients do: in sessions at Highlight Hypnosis, lasting change that once lived only in your deepest desires… becomes reality. If you’re local, come try some cinnamon taffy at my Open House on Friday, Oct 3 in downtown Bellingham. I’d love to welcome you in and share a piece! PS — Anchors are simple but powerful tools. Did you know we can incorporate them in your sessions? ⚓️

🩵⚡️Did you know these 11 truths about hypnosis? 1. Hypnosis works Even when everything else has failed. 2. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind You’ve likely already been in hypnosis hundreds—maybe thousands— of times in your life. 3. YOU are always in control while in hypnosis Your hypnotist does not have any control over you or your mind while you’re in hypnosis. 4. Hypnosis works below the level of conscious thinking This means you become aware of things that you have not been aware of before, leading to important and powerful insight! 5. You’ll be conscious and alert the whole time while you’re in hypnosis We want you to remember the insight you gain from the hypnosis session. 6. Hypnosis works for nearly every issue 7. Hypnosis works really fast Just as our brain can quickly learn a phobia (which is a learned fear), our brain can also learn a new response to an old situation very quickly. 8. Hypnosis is not sleep, nor is it relaxation Hypnosis is focused awareness where you are highly receptive to positive suggestion. 9. Hypnosis is a state of mind, not a feeling Some people feel light, like they’re floating, some feel grounded and safe like a tree. Others feel nothing at all or a light buzzing feeling. They’re all correct—and it’s different for every person. 10. Hypnosis is very powerful and helps you be your best self! Hypnosis helps you tap into your best self — your inherent power. 11. Everyone can be hypnotized All it takes is being will and able to follow instructions. Questions? Visit highlight-hypnosis.com (link in bio) for more info, or to request a complementary consultation, to find out if hypnotherapy might be a good fit for you!

☎️ The call to hypnosis took me a min to answer. I’d been a professional musician for 25 years but had completely burnt out. As fried as I felt, I was also terrified to hit “pause.” When I got home from one of the biggest highlights of my career (a performance on a late-night talk show), I was at once the most exhausted I’d ever been, and the most afraid that stopping would dash all the momentum I’d fought so hard for. “What if a break means I never reach this kind of high point again??” And yet… I knew I had to face this massive anxiety. Because honestly, did I even know who I was without this role I’d identified with my whole life? I needed to find out. So I did it. I set music down, entirely. For the next 10 months, the space that opened up freed me to *explore* — travel, puppetry, dioramas, stereoscopy, comedy, animation, neuroscience, pain psychology… But eventually I needed a clearer vision. So one night, I asked the most fulfilled version of myself to reveal what kind of space she likes spending time in. I opened a floorplanner app to design this “dream space.” To my surprise, it didn’t come out as a music studio. Or an art space. It was… a hypnotherapy office. Now, I’d practiced self-hypnosis for years, but being a professional hypnotist wasn’t on my radar (not consciously, anyway 😉). That sketch revealed a deeper dream — a nudge I couldn’t ignore. Which ultimately led me to become a certified hypnotherapist and launch Highlight Hypnosis! As scary as it was, hitting “pause” proved crucial. Without that break, I never would have uncovered the longing that’s led me to where I am now, more fulfilled, at peace, and aligned in my purpose than ever before. (Bonus: more expressive than ever in my music, too, which I’m free to make now just for FUN!) I’ve kept picturing myself in that room from the sketch — fully present by my clients’ side as they go through meaningful transformations. And while running my practice remotely has been great, a floorplan is never meant to stay flat on the page, now is it? At some point it wants to become real, and lived in, so… I bet you’ll never guess what my announcement is I’ve got coming tomorrow 🤫
