I get asked about our journey quite often so thought I’d share the deets here for ease of reference 😊 • We’ve always contemplated moving abroad for our eldest son’s education and after Irwan had completed his MBA at @oxford_uni in 2014, he was transferred to Khazanah’s (his then employer) London office under the Tier 2 Intra-company Transfer visa (Tier 2 ICT visa). We moved as a family to London in November 2015 under this visa route bearing in mind that it will not lead to an ILR (UK’s PR). • After 3+ years, Irwan (and his colleagues) were called back to KL as the London office was in the process of being shut and we made a decision to remain in the UK for the kids’ education … which meant we needed to apply for a different visa to stay here legally. Due to the restrictions with the Tier 2 ICT visa (cooling off period etc), Irwan wasn’t able to switch in-country to a new visa (we were all his dependants). I then had to be the main visa applicant and applied for the Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa (T1E visa) instead (which meant Irwan and the kids are my dependants). I returned to Malaysia with Imran to submit my application whilst Irwan and Irfan stayed in London. • The application took about 2 weeks to process. We paid for the super priority service and after being interviewed by Home Office to verify the funds for the business (one of the T1E visa conditions is that I must invest £200k in a UK business), I received the approval a couple of days later. • Irwan went back to KL to serve his notice with Khazanah whilst I stayed in London with two kids (a pre-teen and a baby!) and he returned to London a few months later after securing a job with a UK bank. We had to make sure that he doesn’t spend no more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12 months as it will affect our ILR application (coming up soon). • There are numerous visa routes out there (you can search in gov.uk’s website) but the most popular one is the Skilled Worker Visa (previously Tier 2 (General) visa). Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa is no longer available and has been replaced with Innovator Founder visa. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions 👇🏻

Warmer days call for simpler meals ✨ Ingredients: 2 cod fillets (or seabass, haddock, grouper, halibut) Salt to taste 2 knobs fresh ginger, julienned 3 cloves garlic, chopped Scallions, sliced into thin strips Vegetable oil Soy sauce White rice for serving Instructions: Deep fry garlic and half of the julienned ginger until crispy and golden. Set aside. Dry cod and season lightly with salt on both sides. Place fish on a plate or bowl and top each fillet with the other half of the julienned ginger. In a wok or pan that fits the steamer, add water and bring to a boil. Place steamer in the pan and steam the cod with lid on for about 8 minutes or until fish is cooked through. Remove fish. Discard ginger and pour away fishy water. Drizzle sauce and garnish with scallions, fried ginger, and fried garlic. Heat up 2-3 tablespoon oil. Once smoky, spoon the very hot oil carefully on top of the scallions to release the aroma. Enjoy with white rice! #grungeeecooks #easyrecipes #fishrecipes #fish #asiancooking

Twenty years ago, I became your mother, and nothing has shaped me more than loving you. We have grown through different seasons of life together, from our early years in KL to the life we slowly built in London. You grew up between cultures, between languages, between definitions of home. It was not always simple, but it gave you a quiet strength that I admire deeply. Being a mother to a 20 year old feels different. The love is still strong, but it becomes softer, more trusting. I am learning to step back, to watch you become yourself, and to accept that this is how love grows too. You do not need to have everything figured out yet. Just stay kind, stay curious, stay grounded in who you are. Watching you become your own person has been the greatest privilege of my life. Wherever life takes you, my love will always be your home. Happy 20th birthday, Irfan Adam 🤍

I’ve been reading threads about people lacking adab when visiting during Raya, and it feels like the right time to reshare this post I made last year as a gentle reminder to jaga adab bila bertandang. Come on, people, whether there’s a full spread or something simple, whether it’s paper plates or Royal Copenhagen, that’s not the point. The whole idea is to mengeratkan silaturrahim. Let’s be courteous as hosts and guests, and spread joy this Hari Raya 🌙✨ Share your tips below 👇🏻

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! 🌙✨ Recycling last year’s family photo as Irfan’s still at uni until next weekend 🥺 Irwan’s working today and Imran’s off to school, so it’s a bit of a scattered start to Raya this year. Looking forward to Raya lunch at a friend’s later today and another open house tomorrow. Macam ni lah Raya di perantauan. It’s our 11th year celebrating abroad 😭 This Ramadhan has been incredibly special to me and I’m really going to miss it. It’s also been the most tiring one yet, but in the best and most fulfilling way. I think I’ve cooked more than I ever have in my life the last few days! Nearly 12 chickens, 5kg of lamb, 450 pieces of roti sorai, 180 packets of nasi impit, plus 20 pots of nasi tomato and nasi minyak. I’m going to need a commercial kitchen and a helper next year 😅 Thank you so much to everyone for your support. I truly, truly appreciate it ❤️ Have a blessed Raya / Eid! 🫶🏻
