Whew! Finally home after the most wild, wonderful whirlwind of a week in Hollywood😅 My first year nominated for not one, but *two* very special projects in categories incredibly dear to my heart— Young Adult & Middle Grade— alongside a jaw dropping list of fellow nominees— somehow we won both #AudieAwards 🤯😱 I still don’t know that it’s all sunk in and settled but I want to say thank you before too much time passes. Thank you… @audiobooks @mleecobb the organizing committees for hosting this incredible celebration of our craft & for recognizing/honoring This Terrible True Thing (@jennyladenart ‘s heart wrenching autobiographical debut about a young artist struggling to make sense of adulthood in the face of losing loved ones to the AIDS epidemic and finding strength in activism) and What Happened To Rachel Riley? (@claireswinarski ‘s acclaimed brilliant anti-bullying novel for middle-grade readers performed by an incredible full cast). Both of these stories so deserve a spotlight. @almedabeynon @harperaudio @iremainzane @johnmarshallmedia for including me in not only this but so many powerful, well-told stories for young listeners. Sweet, wonderful @jessebickford_15 for this absolute gift of a book, for giving my my first publisher title several years ago, for sitting with me and @jennyladenart on Monday as we celebrated, and for all the care you, Bryan, Kyle, and the whole @blackstonepublishing team give to each book & your craft overall. Everyone in the incredible community that is the Audiobook Industry for always making me feel welcome, like I belong here, and for your constant, overarching, generous spirit— audiobook people are the best people. Despite these unknown and “unprecedented times” in our industry, we deserve to celebrate ourselves and keep doin’ the hustle in honor of the resilience artists must always have in their arsenal to make a life in the arts. Today I want to lift up an incredibly gifted artist I feel so lucky to have met on my journey here in New York (of course, our meeting felt like one of those magical flash-in-the-pan coincidences that only and always happen in this city). @howdyanthony is not only a brilliant actor, creator, writer, director, producer, photographer, and cos-player extraordinaire.... but he also produces the most bang-on magical actors’ reels out of thin air! Seriously, I had such a wonderful, gratifying experience making this with him earlier this year. His process is attentive, efficient, and professional.
