The Capilano Library runs along the edge of an orphaned ravine, connecting its suburban community to nature. Wood-screened clerestories fill the interior with daylight, while a 55-meter long window to the east provides a serene, intimate view of the ravine for library visitors.

Join Group2 Principal Chris Kailing at the OAA Annual Conference for Big Room, Big Results: IPD Collaboration in Action, a hands-on Big Room Workshop that showcases the strength of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) in practice. Step into an active Big Room environment for the Kitchener Fire Station and Affordable Housing IPD Project, experiencing how co-located, multi-disciplinary teams collaborate together in real time. By observing live collaboration among owners, designers, and builders, attendees will gain insight into how IPD reshapes the use of technology, strengthens accountability through multi-party contracts, and improves project outcomes through alignment and trust.
The workshop will be led by Chris Kailing (Principal, Group2), Ryan Scott (Chief Procurement Officer, City of Kitchener), and Arthur Winslow (National IPD Director, Colliers Project Leaders).
We look forward to contributing to the ongoing conversation about collaboration, delivery innovation, and the future of project execution in Ontario.
We’re proud to share that the Lake Country Co‑op Leisure Centre in Prince Albert, SK has been published in sb Magazine’s January 2026 issue, focused on Community Centres and Indoor Sports. sb Magazine is a leading international trade publication focused on the architecture, construction, and operation of sports, leisure, and recreational facilities, published by the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS).
This landmark facility represents an exceptional collaborative effort with partner architect @mjma.ca . The team’s expertise shines through the facility’s outstanding amenities, bringing together a dynamic aquatics centre, twin NHL‑sized arenas, and welcoming community spaces that support sport, recreation, and connection for the entire region.
With the project’s proximity to our Saskatoon studio, we take particular pride in having played a meaningful role in delivering a facility that will serve residents of the area for generations. From early planning through delivery, this project reflects what’s possible when strong partnerships, shared values, and a commitment to community come together.
Congratulations to MJMA, @grahambuilds , @ame_group , @jckenyon_engineering , @wspcanada ,@catterallwright , @htfcwpg , Altus, P. Machibroda, and the entire project team on this well-deserved recognition.

Collaborative delivery methods rooted in Lean thinking and supported by digital construction tools can equip the AEC industry to respond more effectively to the housing crisis. This session highlights practical strategies for reducing risk, strengthening supply‑chain resilience, and improving project predictability while creating opportunities for innovation and industry capacity‑building.
Owners will gain insight into delivering more certainty and cost control; architects and engineers will explore frameworks that support better alignment and integrated decision‑making; and builders and consultants will learn how collaborative approaches streamline workflows, enhance constructability, and attract the skilled talent needed to meet rising demand.
The session also connects these methods to current federal funding priorities and provides real examples of proven design and construction practices that increase efficiency.

Here’s to new challenges and new wins in 2026! We thoroughly enjoyed moderating the Owners Panel on Integrated Project Delivery at the Buildings Show in Toronto earlier this December. Huge thanks to our panel:
Mary Chow - Director of Civic Projects at @cityofburnaby , who have 3 completed IPD projects with 3 more in the works.
Ryan Scott - Chief Procurement Officer at @cityofkitchener , bringing knowledge of the internal training their team executed in preparation for two current IPD projects.
Danny Baltazar - Former Manager, Capital Projects, @torontomet , who provided a case study and lessons learned from a TMU IPD project.
We were also joined by many owners in the audience new to IPD who asked some great questions. Bringing owners together to talk about both the challenges and the wins of IPD while sharing their enthusiasm for this shift in how
projects are designed and built was extremely rewarding.

We’re in Toronto this week delivering a pair of sessions at The Buildings Show, geared at helping attendees understand Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) from multiple industry perspectives.
First up on Wednesday the 3rd, Kari Anne Gaume, Craig Webber, and Chris Kailing will guide attendees through the myths and challenges associated with collaborative project delivery methods. Then, on Thursday the 4th, Chris is moderating a panel of Owner representatives from the City of Burnaby, City of Kitchener, and Toronto Metropolitan University who will talk about their experiences with IPD from onboarding through implementation.

We are proud to announce that the Red Deer Justice Centre has received the 2025 Alberta Minister’s Infrastructure Award – Design Innovation Award, recognizing its outstanding contribution to innovation in public infrastructure.
The Justice Centre, designed by Group2 Architecture + @dlr_group and constructed by @clarkbuilders sets a new benchmark for courthouse design. With 12 courtrooms (expandable to 16), a specialized Indigenous courtroom and digital courtrooms, LEED Gold certification, and sensitive integration of Red Deer’s historic Parsons House, this facility exemplifies excellence in functional design and community-centric innovation.
As Alberta’s Minister Mickey Amery highlighted, the award celebrates how this facility “equips our justice system to run more efficiently and promote access to justice through modern infrastructure”.
Congratulations to the entire project team whose thoughtful collaboration has brought this landmark project to life. @entuitive@thehidigroup@smp_engineering@wspcanada FFA Acoustics, @ibi_group@arcadisglobal@introba_inc altusgroup @bondcreativeyyc@parklandgeotechnical@scatliffmillermurray
We, along with our partners at MJMA, are honoured to receive the Premier’s Award of Excellence in Architecture from the Design Council of Saskatchewan for the Lake Country Co-Op Leisure Centre in Prince Albert. This project began as a vision to create a multi-generational hub where recreation and wellness are at the heart of community life. The centre features an 8-lane 25m pool, a leisure pool with zero entry, lazy river, wave pool, two waterslides, and a hot tub, alongside twin NHL-sized ice rinks and flexible community rooms.
Our design process was shaped by extensive stakeholder engagement, including benchmark facility tours and focused design sessions, ensuring the centre would meet the evolving needs of Prince Albert’s residents. The building’s L-shaped plan and dynamically angled roof create a prominent entrance and unify the program spaces, while custom-profiled metal cladding and continuous bands of glazing make the facility a visible beacon for the community.
Sharing this exciting recognition is our project team, including @mjma.ca , JCK Engineering, MacPherson Engineering Inc., @ame_group , @wspcanada , Catterall & Wright Consulting Engineers, @htfcwpg , and Altus Group, who brought together expertise across disciplines to deliver a regional hub that not only meets today’s needs but also anticipates the future growth and spirit of the city.
