After a year of planning I’m so excited to finally unveil this massive permanent LEGO mural at Elmwood School.
This is a representation of the Tiger from the Chinese Zodiac, their new school mascot representing their Chinese bilingual program. It’s such a thrill to unveil this on the eve of the Lunar New Year and International LEGO Day.
This was a collaborative effort, each 16x16 stud section was built by a student at Elmwood that will live on forever in their school library.
Huge thanks to the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Association, the Elmwood School Parent’s Council, all our friends who helped assemble, and of course the wonderful students and staff of Elmwood.

Just got back from the SaskAi Expo. It was a great privilege to collaborate with @t_ironstar_artist and assemble this huge LEGO mosaic based on two of Torrie’s works. 468 sections, each assembled by expo attendees were combined to create the final piece!
Huge thanks to the AiSK team for putting on the event and to @nwaddell1974 and @beep_bam_boop for helping facilitate all the LEGO fun! #saskaiexpo
“Guess How Much I Love You”
.
This was a piece I put together last year for Northern Bricks, @northernbricks_ca , an AFOL convention I help run here in Edmonton. For our second year we decided to go with the tagline “2 the Moon & Back” with the idea of doing a big Moonbase collab and a lot of sci-fi theming around the event. My mind immediately went back to the book Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney with illustrations by Anita Jeram. I read the book a lot as a kid with my dad and wanted to recreate some of the gorgeous watercolour illustrations in brick. I’ve taken this around to a few shows since and have gotten great reactions, especially from parents. My wife and I are expecting our first child later this year and I can’t wait to build LEGO and read this book with them as my dad built and read with me. Happy Family Day. 💕🐰🌙

The Coates Residence.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to recreate a historic residence in Edmonton as it stands today. This was a super fun project to tackle as I love digging into Edmonton history. I’ve included photos of some renderings showing the functionality as well as more detailed shots of the interior.
The Coates Residence is an Arts and Crafts Revival style home built in Elm Park, a subdivision now part of the Calder neighbourhood. Elm Park was established in 1903 as it was close to the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway rail yard, quickly becoming home to many rail workers and their families. The Coates family built this house in 1931, using many local materials including recycled lumber from the rail yard and locally manufactured clinker brick (installed by the neighbour across the street). More recently, a modern addition has been made on the back of the house, but many of the character-defining elements remain, including the roofline, entryway canopy, and classic globe light fixtures inside.
For the model, we wanted to aim for a pseudo minifig scale, sort of like the winter village sets from LEGO. The model was an anniversary gift and was designed with a few personal touches for the interior and of course included the dogs.

It was an absolute pleasure working for Dymond Bricks at the LinkedIn corporate headquarters in Sunnyvale, California!
The team consisted of LEGO Certified Professional Graeme Dymond (@dymondbricks ), LEGO Master Nick Della Mora (@brickinnick ), LEGO Brick Artist Sam Malmberg (@groovybones ), and me, LEGO Brick Artist Shawn McLeod (@hfxbrx ). Working alongside these elite builders will always be an honour for me.
Over the span of two days we crafted an immense brick-built tower, detailed with dozens of unique and inspiring environments. Approximately 24,000 bricks were used, including one rabbit element! Can you find it?
To wrap up the project, we invited hundreds of very excited LinkedIn employees to design themselves as a minifig. These were added to the structure to bring it to life! Even a tiny Mohak Shroff can be found enjoying the trees surrounding the building!

2024 was a wild ride. We really started out of the basement.
I kicked off the YouTube channel, brought custom kits to markets for the first time, and built some cool big models. I started hosting school workshops and LEGO events with @only_together_events and built some of my best MOCs with @brick.nic@aly.buildz@bricktron_ and @mt.bricks . It’s impossible to sum up the whole year with all the stories and friendships made in photos, but I tried to narrow it down to one per month.
The foundation was laid last year. It all goes up from here. Happy new year.
