This was a fun demo that I did back for the flow magazine in 2010. This demonstration showed the steps to create my sculpted fish series which I called Gnarly Fish. This series was inspired by the snake head fish. The legendary Snake Head can live outside of water for a few days and has been rumored to walk upright on its tail. All together the snake head is a pretty gruesome looking fish and invasive to the northeastern seaboard.
The idea was to imagine/ envision what a snake head fish would evolve into if it were to migrate into a cesspool of radioactive ☢️ waters.
This sculpted form was also just a fun way to push my own personal boundaries in glass at the time. As a tool maker my ongoing goal has been to have an ongoing working experience with glass, so that I can design and produce the most accurate and relative tool for current processes.
Completely devoting myself to a design or project is in my blood.

I sold some of my very first pieces on phish tour 1996 and 1997.
It was a truly enlightening and exciting experience to be part of a scene that moved across the country, which seemingly snowballed the counter culture. Being part of this scene you could see in real time the growing network of friends, distributors, future store owners and like minded artists as they grew into a dynamic culture. This growing network and community are the people who would in time sell mine and many of my friends work for years to come.
The phish crowd was always receptive and supportive space to test out products and meet with like minded people face to face. It is this personal interaction that keeps me coming back to this space where we “shake down” with old friends and friends not yet known who will encourage and support each others ideas as we build and refine our lives and our craft.
I’m ruled by art and creativity and looking back I can say with certainty that @phish and many other concert parking lots created the space for the modern glass art movement to spawn and grow.
