VILLAIN #6: GUS FRING
Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring is a distinctly American sort of villain, though most definitely not the first mercantile bad guy that has graced our culture- (within the confines of this series, I think that honor goes to Mr. Potter from Capra’s IT”S A WONDERFUL LIFE). His ruthlessness is calm, even serene in it’s engineering and purposeful expression. He kills, poisons his community with meth and exploits the entire system that fosters it all with a clock work precision, unemotional, and patient. He doesn’t need to chase you, he doesn’t require your approval or permission, and is deaf to your pleadings, except in the rare case where one may make a reasoned case for another solution. If crocodiles cry when they eat you, Gus smiles.
GUS joins the others in our unique collection of bad eggs for the forthcoming galley show and print releases from @codacurates culminating in a gallery show on the Lower East Side of NYC this coming JULY 11, 2026.
