May is for Bojangles & tap history! I’m teaching another pop-up intermediate tap class this month at @room123studios , Wednesday May 13th, to celebrate National Tap Dance Day with a little advance. 6:30-8pm @room123studios 123 Niagara St, Toronto, ON M5V 1C6 If you’re looking to reconnect with tap dance, fill gaps in your understanding of the style, or just practice in a fun & inclusive space, come on over! In this 1.5h class, we will play with the Shim Sham Shimmy (if you don’t know it yet, this could be your chance…), learn about Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s contributions to tap dance and the entertainment industry, explore some soft-shoe style drills, and work on a combination inspired by Bojangles’ most celebrated moments. For those of you who don’t know, National Tap Dance Day is celebrated May 25th, on Bojangles’ birthday. Come commemorate this legend and so many more! 35 was a big one. I accomplished a lot of my dreams ✅ built a community space for @everybodyonstage which has hosted screenings, workshops of new plays and musicals, engagements, dance classes, parties and events but most importantly became a meeting place for the folks in my life whom I love dearly ✅saw my work on stage @mirvishproductions and @canadianopera ✅I sang for fun ✅Taught next gen artists at @yorkuniversity @wilfridlaurieruni @tmu @hhtheatre @uoftmississauga @theatresheridan ✅our film tiny dancer with @unwraptheatre has launched into the world and is winning awards across North America. ✅I got put in drag for a photoshoot 💜my amazing partner @lukasvernon , family + friends and community have really shown up for me on the days I thought I’d lose it all. Understood on the days (weeks or months) when communication wasn’t available. Shared their knowledge, resources and time to build me up. The lows were really low. I grieved a lot. I made a lot of mistakes. Was forced to confront my self worth when my business was failing because I didn’t know how to show up for myself. Change has always been a struggle for me and this was a year crammed full of it. My life today is unrecognizable from who I was a year ago. 36 is about experiencing life in every moment, not future tripping, planning what’s next or fixating on why it went wrong last time. 36 is about being vulnerable, soft and flawed 36 is about understanding my brain and how to work with it instead of forcing it to work “properly” 36 is about being gayer 💅 36 is about letting people help 36 is about sharing my art and finding the people who want to see it. 36 is about getting loud

Tonight I got to see my work up on a Mirvish stage. Young Greg would have never believed it. I really love this work and am grateful to @stevebolton for welcoming and embracing me in the space. Thanks @fighteractress for sharing your knowledge and bringing this practice into my life. I’m endlessly proud of @paigefosk and @callum_lurie . They are fantastic together and will melt your face. For real, my girl is a damn star! This was very cool.

This man’s words shapped the way I entered every audition for the next decade. This loud voice telling me that no one wanted me because I had a tummy. At some point his voice was replaced by my own. I believed him and tortured my body for a decade. I bullied myself into thinness, damaged by body and self esteem to the extreme. This isn’t a singular experience. Everyone in our industry has had someone comment on their body at some point. Flippant comments that can scar for a lifetime. Five years ago I started healing my relationship with my body and for the first time felt like I actually belonged in the rooms I always dreamed of being in. Today I officially qualified to be put on the union list of Intimacy Directors in Canada and I know I am exactly where I am meant to be. I can’t wait to keep sharing my skills and creating compelling stories all across this country. Thanks for having me @4thlinetheatre .
