A year in and hosting Stars in the Static still feels like a privilege I'm figuring out how to earn, inspired every week by the courage, creativity and curiosity of our local scene.
Stars in the Static has already received more love and support than I could have hoped for, and I don't take that lightly. It's genuinely an honour to feature modern jazz & improvised music, and spotlight local artists doing incredible things.
It's a small scene, and community radio might be the only place left that platforms it with any real courage or conviction. PBS has been doing that for a long time, and it deserves to keep doing it. In a media landscape that's increasingly algorithmic and driven by commercial interests, and a world that can feel pretty broken, it's hard to understate the value of a place where your creative output is an act of community building, not a product.
If you're a performer, a listener, someone who's ever found something through the station, now is the moment to sign up. Join or renew before the end of June and you go in the running to win some amazing prizes, but more importantly, you become a part of a community of people that care.
Community doesn't happen on its own, it takes people who actually show up for it. Share the love π»
