Continuing the ‘Top 49 albums of 2025’ serie

Vermian Death positions Grave Hex as an unmissable act from 2025. The album is built on stable mid‑tempo structures, regularly interspersed with Crust Punk passages and more contemplative ones, recalling at times certain Death‑Doom tendencies. In places, Sludge elements appear, reinforcing the weight and density of the riffs. This alternation creates a constant dynamic contrast, structuring the album while maintaining its coherence.
It is such elements combined together that produces the cavernous effect characteristic of Vermian Death. Each element contributes to a sonic perception of depth and resonance, directly resulting from the combination of rhythmic, textural, and dynamic choices.
The guitar tone emphasizes this architecture. It is thick, saturated, denser in the lows and midrange. Bass and drums support this density, with a precise rhythm section that reinforces impact without attempting to accentuate treble or clarity. The whole maintains a perceptible and continuous weight, which gives the album its specific sonic materiality.

Artwork, created by Slimeweaver, shows a giant decomposing worm emerging from a pus‑filled pond, situated within a cave-like environment. The surrounding space is densely packed with macabre details, including layers of textured organic matter and irregular shapes that reinforce the sense of decay.
