Only 5 weeks to go until 15 teams take on Bristol Birdman to raise money and champion youth and community work across Bristol ✊🏆 There’s still time to get involved, so drop us a message if you want to be part of it. Opportunities like this don’t come around every day! Bristol Birdman is Bristol’s take on the classic flying machine competition. Teams build human-powered creations from recycled materials, then launch from a platform on the harbourside in front of thousands of spectators. It’s creative, chaotic, and unforgettable. But there’s a bigger purpose behind it 💚 Bristol Birdman is the biggest annual fundraiser for Grassroot Communities, helping support young people from underserved communities across Bristol through year-round youth work, mentoring, paid internships, creative projects, and pathways into employment. Every bit of support helps make a difference. When you back Bristol Birdman, you’re backing young people in Bristol 🙌 Huge thanks to everyone supporting us so far 🤩 @wecil_charity @cliftoncoffee @purplefishagency @mutilive @BakehouseFactory @originworkspace @bristolferry @urbanpursuituk @urbanpursuituk @2601_creativeprint @uwebristol @grainbarge @yogscastgames @branchciderco @batala.bristol @aawatersports @mangostone2026 @bristol_harbour

Sometimes brilliant surprises come your way when you least expect them… On the weekend me and my family went away for our daughter’s class camp from Ashton Gate Primary School at the beautiful Beeches Farm campsite over looking Tintern Abbey and the mystical meandering river Wye. A group of 8 8-9 year old kids, without warning told me and all the other parents they were doing a lemonade stall on the campsite and fundraising for Grassroot Communities 🤩 They made the lemonade, they created the posters, they got their sales pitch down to a fine art and they made a very much appreciated £23.19 from the stall ✊🏻🙌🏽🙏🏿 If I could have bottled the excitement shown by those children I’d be a millionaire!!! Children of all abilities and interests all playing their part and helping towards the greater good 😊 Having fun, making, creating, communication, presentation, negotiation and bartering, team work, maths, entrepreneurship and many more experiential learning skills for life 💥🚀✨ Learning can happen in many settings and in a variety of ways. The things that seam to switch all children on are fun, creative, led by them and helping others ❤️ Well, Grassroot Communities and our upcoming Bristol Birdman are extremely proud to be chosen as a recipient to this wonderful group of kids kindness, energies and efforts. Young people are the solution and change is happening from the grassroots and up 🌱☝🏻💚

🚨 Just ONE MONTH until the Bristol Birdman Event! 🕊️🌊 The countdown is officially on - costumes are being planned, flying machines are (hopefully) being tested, and Bristol is getting ready for one of the funniest, wildest days of the year. Whether you’re taking the leap, cheering from the sidelines, or just coming for the chaos, it’s almost time to see who can soar… and who’s heading straight for the harbour 💦 📅 14th June 📍 Bristol Harbour - Near Bristol Marina 🪽 Birdman season is nearly here! #bristolbirdman @visitbristol @bristolbeerfactory @branchciderco @cliftoncoffee @officialyogscast

Last week’s multisports session brought together 23 young people from Years 7–11 for a massive mixed-year game ⚽ Years 7 and 8 had the option to work separately if they felt more comfortable, but every student chose to stay involved 👏 The students asked for a “big game” session this week and it definitely delivered. Fast-paced, chaotic, and full of energy from start to finish. We even had a surprise appearance from “Michael Jackson” thanks to one student turning up in fancy dress 🤩 The blue team came away with a 7–3 win, with plenty of laughs, handball debates, and positive competition throughout. Overall, a brilliant session with great energy, strong participation, and positive interaction across all year groups 💚

Announcing Branch Cider’s partnership with ‘Bristol Birdman’ organisers Grassroot Communities, raising funds for their work with under-served youth and communities across Bristol. For every keg of draught cider sold between now and June 14th Branch will donate a minimum 5% to the Bristol Birdman fundraiser, with a whopping 20% donation for sales to new stockists. So Drink Up Thee Cider this month and help us raise thousands for this great cause, then glide on down to the harbourside for Bristol Birdman Sunday 14th June @branchciderco @grassrootcommunities #cidersforgliders #bristol #cider #glider

Another great session at creative club 🎨🍪 This week we baked cookies and brownies and the group absolutely loved it. The energy was high from the start, so we kicked things off with a quick boogie to burn some of it off 💃🕺 Everyone chose their own ingredients and worked in teams to bring their ideas to life. In between baking we had a little kick about to keep things lively ⚽ We wrapped up by getting everyone’s feedback, which is always key for shaping what we do next. Great vibes, great teamwork, and even better bakes 🙌

Last week at Creative Club we got cooking and made our own burgers 🍔🔥 The young people chose between beef or chicken and added their own toppings and seasonings - getting creative with their own flavours and ideas 👨‍🍳✨ We also took some time to draw our dream burgers… which quickly turned into some very silly (and impressive) food monsters 😂🎨 The group did a great job helping with the tidy up too (always room for improvement though! 💪) One of the highlights was hearing that one young person went home and made burgers again using what they’d learnt in the session 🙌💚 It’s great to see the group really connecting, building skills, and enjoying the sessions together.

Last night we were privileged to be amongst some of Bristol’s most phenomenal young people 💚✨ We were guests who accompanied several YP whom we had nominated for the Community of Purpose awards 🏆 The nominees reception was held at City Hall 🏛️ The grand event is in July, and we are buzzing for all of our young finalists 🙌🔥 A massive congratulations to Desney, Mitch, and the Hartcliffe 5: James, Rio, Chase, Ben & Harvey 👏🎉 We are all really proud of you 💚 @commofpurpose

This week’s multisports session went really well, with the same 16 students returning again 🙌 We set up three teams and played 8-minute matches, which kept things moving, kept everyone involved, and also gave them enough recovery time ⚽️ There was a huge improvement in language from last week, and this time no reminders were needed at all 👏 Sportsmanship was also really strong, with everyone playing fairly and getting stuck in 💪 At one point our Mitch nearly got hit in the face by the ball, but just managed to move his head out of the way in time 😅 A few students left early as they were being picked up, so we adapted by merging one team into the others and finishing with a bigger game, which they really enjoyed 🔄 Overall, a really enjoyable session with great progress and a positive atmosphere throughout 💚
