We've been working on this since last Fall, and can't believe we get to finally announce Sound System Sunday! This event will be an afternoon of bass at @gashilldrinkingroom , delivered on the brand new @shaolinsoundsystem . This series will be geared toward highlighting local and regional DJs and producers. For the inaugural event we are stoked to welcome two dons of NC sound system culture to put our brand new rig to the test — @tunictunes of @hivi_soundsystem and @graphyte_ of @blackcatsoundsystem . Both of these legendary DJs have brought their systems to Winston for some of Subsentia's previous shows as well as supplied sound to multiple Undrgrnd events, so it is truly a full circle moment for us and sound system culture in the 336 that they help christen our new rig. We are also happy to have the hands that built the boxes, @place_holder_x , on the lineup for this maiden voyage. Our dream wouldn't have been a reality without him and we are lucky to have him as a friend and team member. We wanted this event to be perfect for a mid-spring Sunday, so we have also invited @discwasher_ and @medisynth_sound to curate sets to start us off and close us out for the afternoon. We have a few more announcements for this first iteration of Sound System Sunday over the next few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled 👀 Event goes from 3pm-8pm, tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10am on @theramkat website. — Be sure to follow @shaolinsoundsystem to see a behind the scenes look at the system build. Shoutout to @dylanevansdesign for the flyer design and system logo

Where do I even begin? 4hero aka Tom and Jerry, Cold Mission, Project AKO, Waterproof, Reinforced Records, headed by Marc (Manix, Visioneers) and Dego (Tek 9, Cousin Cockroach, 2000black) to me, are the most influential pioneers of jungle music. For my American friends who may not know: 4hero have been creating breakbeat music since the early 90s, before the term jungle even existed. These guys built the blueprint for jungle and drum & bass as we know it. Their sample choices are second to none, often pulling from their deep “rare groove” crates and soundsystem roots dating back to the late ’80s. Their music was born in a small studio in Dollis Hill (pictured today). The Tom & Jerry project, as I understand it, began as a challenge to make a track as quickly as possible. That concept has always resonated with me: no overthinking, no expectations, just pure creativity and fun. It’s in those spontaneous moments that something truly special gets captured. You can hear that freedom in all their tracks, the lightheartedness, the soul. That’s what gives music emotion. That’s what I feel is missing from a lot of music today, no matter how technical a track is if it lacks depth and soul you just have noise. Goldie (Rufige crew, Metalheadz) has credited Marc and Dego for being the ones who taught him how to make music and gave him that confidence, together they adapted techniques still being used today such as pitch shifting and time stretching. Their legacy is too rich to squeeze into this instagram caption. So if you love jungle music you should take a dive into the rabbit hole because their history runs DEEP. In fact, the whole reason I spontaneously came to the UK was because of them. And to hear Marc himself play this music at this iconic London club where 4hero used to preform back in the day. If you would like more info or references, books, or interview recommendations feel free to DM me as I can literally nerd out and talk about this for hours on end 😆 Large up all the junglist massive! 👊

Bringing in the New Year in Minneapolis last weekend for what I believe to be Tippers last indoor set at @snowtafest Had the best time binge watching movies and making music in the hotel room with @exiszt.music and @__michaelgonzalez__ and then going to the rainforest cafe in biggest mall in the western hemisphere 😂🇺🇸 Grateful for all my friends new and old and for all of these experiences. What a blessing to be alive and to witness an artist like Tipper at the peak of his career. Forever grateful for these opportunities to explore new cities and make new friends and see incredible music on state of the art sound systems. The memories are priceless and ill cherish them for the rest of my life. Grateful to be alive. Excited to see what 2025 brings! See yall at the Gorge! 🤙
