Moments that altered my brain chemistry in the last 5 years since founding TALA, a dump to celebrate TALA officially turning 5 (!!) š¤
I would go on a lil rant about how it feels like just yesterday but that would be a lie, it feels like 73 years x
Iāll be honest that there was a lot of pressure on this year - our plans were (and are) huge, elevating each element of our creative output, attempting to launch into totally new categories, as well as entering the world of physical retail!
At times, maybe this year more than ever, it has felt like running through quicksand, but iām a firm believer that to *do* hard things you have to go *through* hard things, and I really couldnāt be prouder of what the team has created from their incredibly hard work
I could tell you that we nearly doubled in revenue again with only 10 new team members and remained profitable (which we did š¤ ), but here are some things I care much much more about:
since tala turned 4:
š¹Ā every since point of growth weāve had, we had without compromising our customer service and delivery track record - our first response time HALVED š to TWO!! HOURS!! and weāre STILL ranked above every single competitor on trustpilot. Now thatās what I call slay!!
š weāve had over 750,000 new people join our community via ig, tiktok, email etc - nearly half of all our orders were from first time customers lovely enough to try tala for the first time
š¤Ā that means nearly half of our sales every week were returning customers - this stat means the most to me, because our customer is genuinely our everything, and I canāt tell you how much it means to be able to grow at this pace whilst knowing that our loyal customers keep trusting us over and over for quality & fit
š§„Ā we launched into FIVE new categories, from linens to 2-in-1 trenches, because versatility & high quality shouldnāt be reserved for your gymwear. this has been a terrifying risk but Iām SO proud of what weāve been able to do in industries with huge incumbents
Iām so thankful to everyone whoās ever supported us, whether thatās in the last week, or the last 5 years. I canāt thank you enough for being here, BIG things are coming x
hilarious that we live in a world where men complain that the worldās richest women are rich from divorce while not stopping for one second to consider exactly why they built it that way
Happy sophia-and-cinzia-on-working-hard day to all who celebrate!! (If you comment 'girls' I'll send you the link to the episode)
Soph & Cinz almost never do podcast interviews, so Iām very grateful they came on for a proper catch up. We talked about growing up together from primary school to building The Girls Bathroom, what itās been like turning a friendship into a career without ruining the friendship, and how theyāve learnt to evolve online without just chasing whatever everyone else is doing.
We also get into @fromrooms , why they waited so long to launch something of their own, the pressure of putting out a product when people already know you, and the very real lesson of growing in public.
And of course we answered some of your dilemmas, because they are our collective agony aunts so it felt wrong not to, I hope you love it! ššøšļøš
If you comment āroutineā, Iāll send you my episode with @sarahs_day all about building a routine that works for you.
This episode also marks the end of the Australia series!! š¦ I loved recording over there and i hope youāve loved the episodes too.
To round it off I had to bring Sarah from @sarahs_day back for part two and a big catch up. We first recorded a couple of years ago, and it felt very overdue to sit down and properly catch up on everything thatās changed since.
We ended up talking about so much, from how the fitness and wellness space feels now, to what itās actually like juggling work and motherhood when your life is very public online, to motivation and discipline and all of that.
I think if youāre in a season where youāre trying to balance a lot, youāll probably get something from this one š¤
Comment ā200ā and Iāll DM you the link to this weekās episode!! š
Weāve officially made it to EPISODE 200 BABY!!
I feel like I should have some big, thoughtful takeaway here, but really I keep going back to the same thing, I canāt believe weāre at 200 episodes. When I started this podcast it was very much a passion project, I wanted to have interesting conversations with people I was curious about and see what happened. I definitely remember feeling a bit embarrassed putting those first episodes out, especially when no one was really listening yet. But watching Working Hard grow into a (million a month) community of people who care about improving their lives in a way that actually feels interesting, whether thatās money, relationships, career, mindset, social issues, skincare, has been so special.
This weekās episode is of course a very useful one (we donāt party here unless itās productive š¤Ŗ). Iāve gone back through the last 100 episodes and pulled out some of the best advice weāve ever had. This took a while to say the least. I had a very long list at one point that would have made this a four hour episode, and Iām avoiding Joe Rogan length episodes at all costs so what youāre getting is a much more reasonable edit.
Itās also a really good place to start if youāre new and want to get into the podcast (no judgement but where have you been). And whether youāve listened to one episode or all 200, thank you for being here, for listening, for sending ideas and shaping this with me! Special shoutout to the OGs whoāve been here since episode one, Iām so proud that itās been completely free since episode one, and hereās to the next 100!
