Creative workshops for web-thinkers, rabbit-holers and tangental queens!
Come practice world building as a form of care, using a variety of materials to create landscapes for your stories to perform on.
✨Session 1, 22nd April: Starting your imagined world
✨Session 2, 29th April: Objects from your world
✨Session 3, 6th May: Collating your world
Come to just one or all three, everyone welcome. 7-8.30 pm. Facilitated by Silva + Grace.
〰️The workshops will be held at @onawhimmargate which is on the ground floor without a step. We will be in a small group of six-nine people and have a five minute break in the middle of the session (there’s a toilet at the space). We’ll play music, and use materials with varying textures (e.g fabrics, pens, pencils, polymer clay). We understand this isn’t accessible to everyone – please send a DM/ message on outsavvy to let us know if there’s anything we can do to make adaptions to your needs. 〰️

A tactile process that taught me the patience to go frame by frame. Inspired by the chaos of obsession - seeing ‘nothing more than you’ 〰️ Loved sinking into this one!

Munched through this book almost immediately when it arrived last week, perhaps cos it touches upon so many of my special interests + work past and present — participatory creation, tactile art, access, sound, politics of space etc etc.
All art is multisensory really cos we’re have to breath and live in space with our bodies to experience it, but it’s true that we’re often required to look, look, look at it, on our little flat screens.
In one essay Caro Verbeek explains how when scentscapes are included in an exhibition’s design, visitor discussion + engagement soars - which isn’t surprising really but highlights just how ‘clean’ and sterile many institutional spaces are. There’s lots of examples of how stories can be enhanced with olfactory installs, like describing the life of an artist through smellscapes of their materials and perfume even!!👃(also learnt how limited many of us are at describing scent-related stuff, these are whole languages we need to learn)
In another essay, academic and disability theory legend Georgina Kleege describes walking into the inner circle of stone henge and noticing a shift of temperature, then putting her hands on one of the rocks and feeling the vibrations made by small birds nesting inside. 🐦 So beautiful! She talks about the multiple ways we can use different parts of our hands and body to touch and understand artefacts and objects (noticing temperature, vibrations, sonority etc etc)….recommended reading friends!
I’ve also just got my ADHD diagnosis after 5+years of waiting (!!) so all this is resonating strongly today. Quite wanting to be immersed jn a sensory landscape for a bit please.
