If you’ve ever lost an entire night’s sleep dealing with the shock of loss, this one’s for you.
@jesseclegg@msaki_za and I collaborated on Awake In The Night which we wrote together after one of the realest deepest conversations I’ve ever had.
The line “when everything I tried to build just fell apart” is the core of this song. The three of us are all parents, we’d all had our core family unit disintegrate, we’d lost a parent of our own on top of it all.
It meant a lot to me to be able to open up and explore these topics with two souls who have come to mean to much to me in our time together.
Swipe for a series of behind the scenes videos where I’ll walk you through the flow of our sessions, how the identity of the song emerged, and how we got it over the line.
I co-wrote, programmed, produced, played synths, bass guitar, electric guitars and samplers, then mixed and mastered Awake in the Night. I’m also making a rare appearance as a featured artist - time to put a current picture on my Spotify profile!
Awake in the Night is part of Jesse and Msaki’s Entropy EP, where they explore the many different sides of decay and dissolution across power ballads and pop bangers. I also mixed Untimely Disclosure, Wayside Lover, and Cruel World for Meaning Junkies, then mastered the entire EP.
Jesse and Msaki’s extended team over in South Africa also made a visual album from these songs - check YouTube to see more.
Remember - next time you hear from a friend who says “I can’t sleep” - send them this EP with love from us.
Check out the new track “Have You Considered,” a collaboration between imogenheap @pattiegonia@boreta and vertical artists @bandalooping 🙌
GPS client Damian Taylor @hereisdamian contributed additional production, additional programming and mixed the track.
Damian shared on his IG that it was a standout experience for him, both creatively and collaboratively - check out his page to see a series of videos he made describing his process.

Check out GPS client, @daveodonnell_ on the “Industry Panel ▪︎ The Sound of Story: Where Film & Music Meet” as a part of @nycomedyfilmfestival this Friday 2/20.
The panel will take place at 12pm @theasylumnyc
Buy tickets at the link in stories.
About the panel:
“If you’re a filmmaker who’s struggled with music choices, budgets, or rights — or a musician trying to understand how work actually lands in film and television — this panel is for you. The Sound of Story brings together award-winning music supervisors, producers, licensors, publishing experts, and platform leaders to break down how music really functions inside the filmmaking process, and why it needs to be part of the conversation earlier than most people think.
The discussion will cover the creative and financial tradeoffs between original scores and licensed music, common clearance mistakes, collaboration between directors, composers, and supervisors, and how music discovery, rights, and opportunity are evolving in a streaming-first industry. Practical and candid, this conversation offers filmmakers and music makers a shared framework for working together — and for building sound that truly serves the story.“

Let’s bring back “weird flex but okay” by me telling you that Wrabel’s new album “Up Above” is the project I’ve shed the most tears over in my career to date.
I love Wrabel and I love this album for that reason. At the core of this record sits a raw unfiltered human vulnerability sung by someone who has Truly Been There; made all the more urgent and poignant by his reflections on the fragility of life, man’s capacity to destroy it, and the simultaneous profundity and meaninglessness of every moment of our existence.
It all depends where you focus your lens.
Early in my career I was most concerned about being clever, cutting edge, ground breaking, professional, insanely hard working, proving what it was that I as an individual could bring to an album. Those traits are still there, but more and more my sole concern in a record is finding the most powerful emotions within a song and making sure they’re turned up to eleven. Human connection, human resonance above all else.
And in the role I played on this album doing additional production and mixing, it was all about taking the beautiful work done by Wrabel and his collaborators, then testing which parts of their work could be tuned for maximum connection, maximum resonance. There’s no LUFs meter on the planet that can do this for you; you’ve got to be emotionally present, technically unbiased, and quietly aware of what the speakers are asking for.
Many times on this record, I’d be deep into a session, locked in on technical tweaks, then I’d feel the emotional dam burst. The lyrics would come alive, the subtext of the back story would connect, and, yep, real tears at the mixing board. Those would be the moments I’d fight for the hardest, advocate for the most deeply, whenever Wrabel and his co-producer Austin and I would start reviewing my latest versions.
I love that their intention and feedback kept the record weird, while knowing the central overlap in our Venn diagram served the songs and the album as a whole the most deeply.
I love that we got to make a deep body of work that asks you to lean forward into its haze, to let go and flow with the universe of Up Above. Play it loud on repeat okay? ✨💕✨
