OK Time-warp update. 15 yrs ago today LIFE LIKE was released by @polyvinylrecords@joanofarcband ‘s most proggy album by a long shot. & The last time I worked w/ Albini, though I never would’ve imagined that’d be the case at the time
We did a 3-wk EU tour playing the new songs every night, then got home & went straight into @electricalaudio to record them all on straight muscle-memory while still jet-lagged. & Steve had the flu.
I really love this one. As varied as all the JOA albums are, this one is really different than all the others

My first wk of grad schoo long ago I gave a long presentation on this album as an ice breaker to introduce myself & when the pandemic hit @emptybottle started a podcast & asked me to talk about my favorite album for 5-7 min & I couldn’t cut it down shorter than 40

“Kinsella & Pulse, LLC is the musical collaboration of lifer weirdos Tim Kinsella & Jenny Pulse.
While their meticulously crafted audio mosaic Giddy Skelter (Kill Rock Stars, 2023) showcased the duo’s innovative production sensibilities, their latest album Open ing Night (Kill Rock Stars, 2025) offered listeners a more natural perspective. This is apparent, in particular, throughout the entire first half of the album, a five-part suite recorded in one uninterrupted take that plays more like a well-curated DJ set than a traditional album side.
Pulse summarizes this current sound of theirs as “Chicago post-rave desert art-pop.” And it’s the sound of three decades of post punk, underground dance music, and the avant-garde culminating in a singular vision of smart, mutant pop.”
