When I first moved to this city I didn’t imagine myself having the opportunity to join the SAG-AFTRA union so quickly. All of my first acting jobs in NYC felt like they happened so fast, like a whirlwind, like a dream. And now everything is at a standstill. Film and Television auditions have stopped completely, productions are on hold, and actors, writers, creatives and crew are out of work, fighting for just and fair contracts. This strike is not just important for actors but for all working people. The outcomes of these negotiations will inform what future strike and negotiations will look like for other unions in other industries. We are standing up against the greed of these multibillion dollar companies that pay their CEO’s hundreds of millions of dollars a year, while not paying the fair share that is owed to the workers on the floor! For nearly a decade I’ve been a part of a union starting with International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, then Actors Equity Association, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
