Did you know that you can apply to the Green Spaces Fund for grants as little as £2,000? 🤔
To date, the fund has supported 122 projects that are creating or improving green spaces in all Greater Manchester boroughs.
Pemberton Community Association in Wigan launched a Green Spaces Fund project with a grant of just £4,667.
They’ve enhanced lots of neglected spaces in a busy residential area, infusing grey streets with much-needed colour.
The group has planted 1,200 bulbs including crocus and daffodil, sowed several wildflower patches, and have worked with their local high school to create a ‘bug mansion’ to support biodiversity in the area.
Do you want to be part of the greener picture? Applications for this year's Green Spaces Fund will be opening on Monday 18th May at noon!

Last month, we welcomed MP Hannah Spencer to one of our Green Spaces Fund projects in Levenshulme 🌳
She popped down to the Bluebell Green site, which received support in our first ever round of the Green Spaces Fund, and loved all the colour and community spirit on site.
We spoke about the importance of accessible green spaces for everyone's health and wellbeing, and how the fund enables communities to come together to create or improve these vital places across all 10 boroughs of GM.
The next round of the Green Spaces Fund is opening on Monday 18th May, and you can apply for grants from £2,000 - £40,000.
Have you got a great green idea for your community? 🤗

Are you taking part in No Mow May? 🌼 Cut back on cutting the grass and let nature bloom!
Keeping the lawnmower in the shed this month means that grasses and native wildflowers can flourish, providing much-needed support for our bees and butterflies.
According to @plantlife.loveplants , the charity behind No Mow May, approximately 97% of the UK's flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s, depleting vital food and habitat needed by wildlife.
One of our Green Spaces Fund groups, @localfoodfirst23 have created this pollinator-friendly wildflower meadow at a community allotment in Oldham, showing that from little seeds, great things can grow... 💚

It's all systems go in Tameside, where some of our most recent Green Spaces Fund winners are creating a community food forest in the Chadwick Dam area 🍏
Silversprings Primary Academy received over £30,000 to transform this underused green space into an edible, educational landscape by planting fruit trees, berries, herbs, perennial vegetables, mushrooms, and pollinator-friendly plants.
Community members will engage in foraging, cooking sessions, and workshops focused on nutritious, seasonal eating.
Huge thanks to Nina from @cityoftreesmcr , the Green Spaces Fund Advisor for Trafford (and Stockport!), for this lovely photo.

What on earth is a "sponge meadow"? 🤔 We're glad you asked!
It's a type of Sustainable Drainage System, or 'SuDS', that helps prevent urban flooding by helping rainwater runoff absorb slowly back into the ground.
One of our newest Green Spaces Fund projects has created a sponge meadow in Chortlon Park, helping to finally put an end to 30+ years of flooding.
Friends of Chorlton Park dug this epic basin to collect excessive rainfall. Rather than water in the park spilling out over pathways, it’s now being held in the central green patch and slowly being absorbed back into the ground.
We've now funded 122 projects to help make GM greener... there really are great green ideas everywhere!

Not every Green Spaces Fund project is a huge transformation: even the smallest green spaces can make a difference.
@westcroftcommunitycentre used a grant of £7,369 to create a small public garden in the unloved concrete space in front of their building, extending the warm welcome the centre offers outside.
A pop of colour where it used to be grey: that's what the Green Spaces Fund is for! 💚

Every day is Earth Day 🌍 And our amazing Green Spaces Fund groups are a perfect example of this year's theme 'Our Power, Our Planet', which highlights how community action and local problem-solving is a vital to protecting our planet.
Even the smallest green spaces can make a difference, for both for the communities and the wildlife that thrive there.
For example, Pemberton Community Association used a grant of just £4,667 from our Green Spaces Fund to enhance small green spaces in a busy residential area in Wigan.
Previously dominated by grey tarmac and litter, the project is now providing colour, food and shelter for wildlife – all things requested by the local community.
