We have some spare litter-picking equipment available - please let us know if you would like some! Litter-picking in the community is a great way to look after where we live, and you can do it whenever suits you.
We can provide blue council bags to collect litter in too. Leave a full blue bag by a council bin and the council will collect it (if you've ever seen and wondered what those blue bags out and about are.... now you know!).
We already have some amazing people locally who help litterpick - why not join them?💚♻
Good morning all! If you're a local business or organisation in Pemberton would you like some of our lovely new flyers?
I didn't actually get round to printing the flyer we created late last year for our planting project, whoops🙈🤣 (too busy getting plants in the grounds with our fabulous volunteers!).
So I decided to update the flyer a bit, as I'm embracing the 'Coal to Colour' name for our project a bit more🙂 AND I've actually now ordered A5 flyers! So it would be fantastic to get these out to help continue spreading the word for our Enfield St community planting🥰🌱
If you would be willing to take some flyers please drop us a message or a comment. You can also email us at [email protected]

Hey all, here is some guidance if you're joining us tomorrow for the litterpick at Alexandra Park's woodland:
🌿 Wear long sleeves and trousers, and sturdy shoes or wellies. The path are muddy and little uneven in places, and some litter is in the undergrowth beside the paths.
🌿 It's also forecast for light rain, so please dress appropriate for that too!
🌿 Bring some water.
It's a beautiful area where you can see wildflowers, so much greenery and hear the birds singing too🥰 So it should be a satisfying pick! I've included some photos showing both what we'll be tackling and what a nice area this can be💚

🌷🌸COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP & GREEN SPACE ROUND-UP🌸🌷
Hey all! A bit late this week but here's a roundup of what's been happening in the last few days, including from outside our volunteer sessions🥰:
🌻 on Monday we were back at our favourite community garden spot on Enfield St😉 Martin, Kevin, Alison and myself cleared some of the weeds that were swamping young shrubs on the carpark. We also got the grass mown and planted another oxeye daisy. There were also new flowers out to enjoy too - aquilegias, weigela along with natives dogwood and foxgloves. We spotted bees going mad over cotoneaster flowers! And of course we had a brew, biscuits and natter along the way too🙂
🚮Tony got out for a quick pick on Ormskirk Rd, and I did one on Enfield St too.
♻️ On Thursday we had a evening group litter picking session, to coincide with us bidding for funding at St Cuthberts ARLFC. Thanks to Tony, Kyle, Simon, Ruth and Alan for coming out tackling the litter on Montrose Ave. A dog walker stopped and told us there was fly tipped bags that had burst on the playground nearby and spreading rubbish, so we got that bagged up and cleared too!
If you have been litter picking or providing TLC to our outdoor spaces in Pem, please share them with us and we'll include it in our next post.

Hey all - happy sunny Friday! A quick post to share that last night we successfully pitched for £275 of funding from the Wigan Rotary Club. Thank you so much🥰 As part of the evening we also got to hear from other good causes and community groups in Wigan - it was brilliant to hear the range of great things going on in the borough and see such dedicated and caring people.
We will use the funding we've received towards our cleanup and/or community gardening efforts in Pem.
I'll share a roundup post of this week's gardening and clean-up going on in the area shortly - including last night's litter pick🚮

♻️🌱COMMUNITY CLEAN-UPS & GREEN SPACE ROUND-UP🌱♻️
Hey all! Here's a roundup of what's been happening in the last few days, including from outside our volunteer sessions🥰:
🌼 On Monday we were back on Enfield St. On the From Coal to Colour' project, we mowed the grass and Kyle and I put down some cardboard and wood chip between plants to surpress and help conserve water. Meanwhile, Martin and Alison litterpicked along the whole length of the street! I also spotted native plants we put in - foxgloves and oxeye daisies - are shooting up so look forward to more bee friendly flowers there soon.
♻️ Matthew and Kyle tackled another part of Pemberton highstreet on Ormskirk Road, clearing debris, weeds and litter-picking.
🚮 We've had loads of litter-picking in the last few days! Kyle was back out tackling the carparks behind the high street and Fleet St, while Alison tackled Highfield Gardens park behind Enfield St.
🧹On Queen St, Amanda both litter-picked the area (including the carpark) and cleared away weeds by the care home there.
Thank you so much those who are helping look after and improve where we live. It is making a difference - I'm seeing quite a few comments when out and about that people notice things are looking better, cleaner and are enjoying the flowers on Enfield St.
If you have been litter picking or providing TLC to our outdoor spaces in Pem, please share them with us and we'll include it in future posts🙂

Every day is Earth Day 🌍 And our amazing Green Spaces Fund groups are a perfect example of this year's theme 'Our Power, Our Planet', which highlights how community action and local problem-solving is a vital to protecting our planet.
Even the smallest green spaces can make a difference, for both for the communities and the wildlife that thrive there.
For example, Pemberton Community Association used a grant of just £4,667 from our Green Spaces Fund to enhance small green spaces in a busy residential area in Wigan.
Previously dominated by grey tarmac and litter, the project is now providing colour, food and shelter for wildlife – all things requested by the local community.
