“…it sat mostly unperformed for 36 years until the intrepid Gil Rose, head of @odysseyopera and the @bmopmusic , revived it in a simple staging in April 2024 at the Huntington Theatre in Boston… the performance, under the ever-remarkable conductor Gil Rose, is precise and carefully pointed… hats off, once again, to Gil Rose and his admirable Boston-based team!” | Ralph P. “A better fit for the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) and its conductor Gil Rose than American composer Eric Sawyer (b.1962) would be hard to imagine… it’s rewarding… Rose and @bmopmusic distinguish themselves in these performances” | Textura May 2026 on @bmopsound ’s Eric Sawyer: Civil Disobedience

“@bmopmusic [under] conductor Gil Rose perform Shuying Li’s works in expert fashion. The ensemble’s crisp articulation, rich and transparent sonority, and intensity of expression are consistently gratifying… excellent. A memorable release.” | Ken Meltzer reviews @bmopsound ’s Shuying Li: The Last Hive Mind in the Mar-Apr 2026 issue of Fanfare

“@bmopmusic ’s stunning performance…on this disc will cause other ensembles to rediscover the music of this composer, who seems to have fallen into undeserved neglect. My top recommendation attends this release, as it has in every other disc I’ve reviewed by this superb ensemble and its guiding force and director, Gil Rose.” | David DeBoor Canfield reviews @bmopsound recording Ross Lee Finney: Landscapes Remembered in the Mar-Apr 2026 issue of Fanfare

Twenty years ago I was fortunate to record three of Bernard Rands’ works with @bmopmusic , including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Canti del Sole, for tenor and orchestra. His passing a few days ago brought back many memories of those sessions and, importantly, the recollection of the urge of necessity that these three contemporary compositions, Canti dell’Eclisse, for bass and orchestra, Canti Lunatici, for soprano and orchestra, and the Canti del Sole, should be preserved collectively for posterity.
