National Day for Truth and Reconciliation has passed - but the work isn’t over. True reconciliation demands continuous education, empathy, and action. It means amplifying Indigenous voices, advocating for change in policies, and not only recognizing but also confronting systemic injustices.
Some actions you can take throughout the year:
1. Learn about the true history of “so-called Canada” — its long-lasting impact, and how these issues continue to this day.
2. Educate yourself and stand against misinformation.
3. Research and practice non-performative allyship.
4. Consume media by Indigenous creators and read books by Indigenous authors.
5. Connect with Indigenous organizations and attend solidarity events.
6. Support Indigenous businesses and artists.
