Right now, Icelandâs Parliament is considering new laws to regulate the detrimental practice of fish-farming in sea cages. If they pass laws that are strong enough, this could become one of the greatest acts of nature protection and preservation in history. But, for that to happen, lawmakers need to be aware of the will of the people, both in Iceland and across the world.
Icelandic nature and wild Atlantic salmon are at a critical juncture. As the aquaculture draft bill approaches finalization, lawmakers face a defining choice: protect Icelandâs fjords, economy, and wild salmonâor allow the continued expansion of destructive seaâcage salmon farming. 63% of Icelanders opposed to sea cages, the public mandate is clear.
Sign the petition and protect Icelandâs biodiversity, and and urge Parliament to strengthen the bill by adding three guardrails:
- Phase out sea cages
-Stop new seaâcage licenses
-Transition to closed or landâbased systems

Please donate and share to help restore Playa Zicatela, Puerto Escondido!
Over two decades ago a jetty was built in Bahia Principal, one kilometer north of Playa Zicatela which consequently altered the natural cross-shore sand transport cycle at the famed âMexican Pipelineâ.
Year after year this jetty has been trapping sand which has backfilled the beach at Zicatela extending it upwards of 100 meters in some places. Though it still has its moments, the wave has suffered tremendously now breaking closer to shore, often plagued with massive rips and current, and even making it unsurfable when it is small.
For over a decade there has been a local movement to get federal approval for the removal of the jetty in hopes of restoring the beach to its natural state. â¨
But in June 2025, Mother Nature gave its own nod of approval first when Hurricane Erick tore down part of the breakwater.
Afterwards, the people of Puerto Escondido came together: Fishermen, surfers, families, and volunteers showed up and in a massive community effort, began cleaning up and removing the rocks with their bare hands.
Formal approval for its removal has since been granted, but there is still work to do with tons of rocks remaining underwater that can only be removed with heavy machinery.
A campaign has been launched to raise the funds needed to finish this removal project: 2 million pesosâ 100 thousand US Dollars which I know the international surfing community can collectively achieve!
All money raised will go directly to fund the labor and equipment needed to remove the remaining rock, in turn allowing the sand to cycle freely once again.
â¨If youâve ever surfed Zicatela, admired its waves from afar, or simply believe in the power of people and nature united, this is your moment to help.
If you have the means, please donate. Every bit helps. And If not, please share this message and support this amazing communities effort to restore their beach and world class surfing recourse to its natural state!

Greg Long is an amazing surfer as well as an incredible human being. Greg and his brother Rusty have logged many years exploring the coastline around Puerto Escondido. Greg is a very calculated and stylish surfer and itâs fun to watch him surf a perfect right point break.
In this edit, Greg enjoys an amazing, uncrowded session at one of the jewels of Southern Mexico
