Buttons! Of! Schiaparelli! Including but not limited to: silk carrots, radishes and cauliflowers, enamel globes (for world solidarity during WWII), and a naked mermaid (worn by Jane Clark to George VII’s coronation, no less…) Special mention for the (slightly fuzzy) peanut brooch and three perfect gloves šŸ„•šŸ«œ

Can’t think of a better way to spend #IWD than with my mum at Rose Wylie @royalacademyarts . The 91-year-old rebel painter’s work is full of life and zing and fun - just like my mama! #RoseWylie

Joy of joys to write about the wonderful whimsical world of Moominvalley for @fthtsi šŸ’– These round-bellied trolls are winning over the world and, on the way, have driven the price of Moomin mugs into the tens of thousands. If you were lucky enough to buy the first winter mug in 2006, you may well have made a better investment than gold. The full collecting story is in FT Weekend and online now (linked in bio) but distilled to two tips: buy up Little My mugs, she tends to hold the best return, and always keep the packaging. Thanks to @ullakiljala and Saija, the generous instruction of Rasmus and the team at @muumimukitrahaksi (the definitive place to buy a vintage mug), and anderslanden, who has a beautiful collecting guide, ā€˜Treasures from Moomin Valley’ (in the last pic) for a bit of further reading… And always to @jellison22 @bayasimons ! 🦩

Up, up and away for this week’s travel issue of @fthtsi ! Inside, all of @waitsui ’s favourite things: Thai herbal inhalers and digital PokĆ©mon cards (if he were a PokĆ©mon he would be Pikachu), Norwegian ketchup and Japanese lucky charms. Thanks to @rosiemayseed @mariashollenbarger @jellison22 ā˜„ļø

LOVED speaking to the wonderful and eternally interested Adrienne Salinger for this week’s @fthtsi . In the 80s and 90s she photographed portraits of teenagers in their bedrooms, compiled in a time capsule series ā€˜Teenagers In Their Bedrooms’, now back in print and available to buy!! Biggest thanks to @bayasimons āļøāļøāļø

Here is empress Diana Vreeland. She is sitting for Deborah Turbeville, who took this photograph as part of her 1990 series ā€˜Passport.’ The image, more of a hybrid object than a photograph, has been ripped, pinned, and aged in a very Turbeville way: it looks like it might have been found in an old drawer, fallen through time. I interviewed Karen McQuaid, curator of ā€˜Deborah Turbeville: Photocollage’ at @thephotographersgallery , about the dusty, dreamy, uncanny romance of Turbeville’s creative universe. The interview is linked in my bio and the exhibition is on until Sunday. Go! For @thevioletbook . Thank you @acjournal @leithclark šŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œ #deborahturbeville
