Suspended above its observers, the artwork uses a coded set of rules to exhibit a complex set of behaviours. Dynamic patterns of light emerge, repeat, mutate and dissipate in a constant state of metamorphosis. ⁠ ⁠ These patterns are produced by a diversity of algorithms, including RL agents, evolving neural networks and rule-systems, agent simulations, and hand-designed rules and algorithms. Some are still learning or evolving over time. The artwork is now situated in the lobby of DeepMind’s new headquarters in Kings Cross, London.⁠ ⁠ Film by @hotmilkfilms

Another WIP from @ulcollective ! Ray Bounce study ! Playing around with our custom Light-Path Simulator for OPTO NANO, our upcoming collaboration with @jackphilpdance and prof. Paola Borri @cubiosciences ! We wrote our own simple ray-tracing algorithm in the Unity game-engine, that keeps track of the histories of all the virtual photons shot from the light-source. Typical render engines are not interested in keeping these light paths, mainly because they focus on producing a final image, the light hitting the virtual camera sensor. We actually have no use for that, instead we focus on the crazy, whimsical paths of photons as they bounce around, and we treat them as visual objects in themselves, as luminous threads. Excited to share some @ulcollective WIP! Playing around with our custom Light-Path Simulator for OPTO NANO, our upcoming collaboration with @jackphilpdance and prof. Paola Borri @cubiosciences ! We wrote a small ray-tracer from scratch, in order to have full geometric access to the branching paths that light explores as she goes through prisms. In contrast to every render-engine out there, we are interested in the path itself as a spatial entity, not the generation of a final image. In the works for months, we are excited beyond words to reveal @ulcollective 's newest collaboration with @whitleydance : Anti-Body, an interactive dance performance, previews this October, 8 Oct @danceeast & 26 Oct @oxfordplayhouse as part of @oxford_if Anti-Body explores the biological form of the human body and the technological drive to transcend it. Three performers, isolated yet connected digitally in an interactive space of motion responsive visuals, explore tensions between mind and body, containment and connection, and the desire to be unique as well as part of something larger than ourselves. Captivating dance performances by @tiamayhockey @davidledger and @hannah_l_rudd “I’m interested in the subject of the post-human or trans-human, which, in its most extreme form is the idea that we can download someone’s mind onto a computer chip. By Alexander Whitley Dance Company:" Tonight @vrhamfestival are premiering our second Chaotic Body film, 'Chaotic Body 2: Liminal Phase' made in collaboration with digital artists @ulcollective with a specially commissioned score by acclaimed American Composer @missymazzoli For the moment you can see it exclsuively on site in Hamburg (alongside the AR version of the film created by the incredible @fenyceworkspace ), and runs in the space until 12 June, but in the meantime we are excited to share with you this taster. This second part of a triptych of films, a motion-capture based digital dance film for screen and augmented reality, taking inspiration from chaos theory, the dynamic processes it describes and the associated geometric patterns found in nature.
