Nature has always been my biggest inspiration.
But over the years of living in NYC—I began to feel less and less connected to nature. And given that my motion design work is on a computer, I always felt ‘stuck’ indoors and less inspired to go out and explore.
My friends and I have always dreamed of pooling our resources to go in on some land together. We envisioned it as a small community with our forever homes, but also an inspiring co-work / co-play environment where we could interact with other creatives and makers who also draw energy and inspiration from the outdoors.
All of those dreams became reality this past fall. After 6 years in New York City and two years of property searching, I’m the first of our group to move up to the Finger Lakes of NY on a beautiful ~90-acre property we’re calling @flockfingerlakes . Now in addition to my animation work, I find myself not only making more stuff with my hands, but also exploring other interests like architecture, carpentry, permaculture and more.
As we learn, we’ll be documenting our progress on a new YouTube Channel @flockfingerlakes co-produced with one of the members @homesteadbrooklyn . And we’re also featuring some of the incredible makers / doers / farmers / growers /creatives in this unique region of New York.
Thanks to @stephen.kelleher.studio for executing the emblem for @flockfingerlakes . You can keep up with our progress over at flockfingerlakes.com and youtube.com/c/flockfingerlakes.
Sometimes the creation of animations can be an art on its own. Here are some screenshots taken while building the graphics to be animated. @strava@manual_sf #datavisualization #motiongraphics #yearinsport #strava #athletesdontquit #manualcreative #lottieanimation #lottieanimations #bodymovin #aftereffects #aftereffectsanimation #geometry #motiondesign
At the end of last year, I worked with @manual_sf and @strava to bring their ‘Year in Sport’ to life. In previous years, Strava had created both animated videos and a static in-app experience to present the experience. This was the first year the team set out to create a fully data-driven animated experience within the Strava app, giving athletes an immersive personalized experience that could be easily shared across social channels.
Design: Strava + Manual (Team: @tomcrabtree@tetoirwin@franklionetti@patcaz@nathan.fyock@_isabellawelch@alirezajaj ) It was great collaborating with you all.

Some of you might know that I co-produce a YouTube Channel called ‘Plant One On Me’ with @homesteadbrooklyn to bring the love of #botany to a wider audience. Well, our work just got nominated for TWO @thewebbyawards (DIY/How-To and Travel & Adventure) and we’d love your vote of support!
We're in the mix with giants like BBC, Nat Geo and Vox, so it would be fun to see how two independent creators stack up to the big guys! 💪🏽
The DIY nominated is our first Houseplant Home Makeover. And the Travel episode is the Rare Plant Survey, hiking to the Tiger's Nose in Thailand in memory of the late botanist, Chanin Thorut.
You can vote once / category and you can easily register via Twitter, Facebook or email. Link to each video is in my Stories.
THANK YOU all so much in advance for voting.
This is a sequence of voice interactions that I did for IKEA. It was fun to play around with not only how a voice assistant would actually translate to motion, but whether the viewer would understand the interaction.
I chose to use the simple square and circle characters drawn from the IKEA logo to use as the interaction tool, giving it a building block feeling. Then I used animation to give life to the shapes to show that the AI is thinking, listening, confirming, etc.
I created functional movement when coming up with a motion language for Ikea.
In movement 1, you can see the text bubble is being “placed” on the screen, giving it a sense of “weight”. This is like a subtle nod to placing furniture down. Together with the sound design from PLAN8, this makes UI elements feel more physical.
Movement 2 is a more playful movement, which is revealed in the dots. Elements pop up and are free to move, but still have a good sense of weight to it, making it again feel more physcial.
These are the core movements that you can find throughout every element that moves.

@space10_journal , a research and design lab funded by @IKEAUSA , asked me to experiment and develop a motion language for IKEA’s apps that can be integrated over time. SPACE10’s overall mission is to enable a better everyday life for people and the planet.
Together with the design team at @norgramstudio and audio from @plan8music , I crafted a film that demonstrates some of the IKEA products and interactions and how they could move in the digital sphere.
Free Tutorial - Infinite Penrose Triangle 📐 !! With most of us spending time indoors in these strange times, it’s a good opportunity to learn more. I produced a short tutorial for @schoolofmotion on how I created the infinite triangle shape from the Blend Manifesto Animation—and as a bonus—another longer tutorial where I take that animation to the next level. (Link in Stories) Stay healthy. Stay curious.
This free course is an orientation to discover if you're ready to go freelance. As part of the introduction to three more in depth courses, you’ll learn to define your goals and explore what types of work are most suitable for you. ((Link in bio)) 👆🏼
