Call it destiny, karma, or two women intensely manifesting—here’s the story of GENERAL ITEMS. @tiipoi always wanted a home in India, but we’ve always been picky and a bit unhappy with the options for spaces to sell our wares. Last December, one phone call and a site visit were all it took to seal the deal on leasing this one-of-a-kind, last-of-its-kind school provisions store that was part of the RBANM’s school. Without batting an eyelid, we knew this space needed to be part of our growing @tiipoi world, along with a handful of other like-minded designers and India-based studios. The final cherry on the cake was @malinimalik —where it was love at first sight, a match made in heaven, with her stellar expertise in retail and an eye for product like no other. So, come celebrate the opening of our little store/occasional gallery that we’ve put together for you with so much care and love. See you this Sunday, Bangalore!

We’re in the FT 😍 Featured in Cult Shop by @fthtsi and @financialtimes . A big thank you to @bayasimons and @ines_cross for telling our story ❤️🙏🏼 “‘We met in Bengaluru last year through a mutual friend. You could call it love at first sight,’ says product buyer Malini Malik (@malinimalik ) of her first encounter with Spandana Gopal, founder of design studio Tiipoi (@tiipoi ). Within 10 minutes, the pair had bonded over their love of minimalist interiors and functional design, and the idea to start a business together was born. Four months later, in August 2024, they opened General Items (@generalitems.in ), a shop and “occasional” gallery in Bengaluru’s bustling Ulsoor.” Link in bio

Thank you, @vogueindia , for highlighting why we do what we do ❤️ “General Items is unmissable with its bright red doors, floor-to-ceiling windows and minimalist but design-forward interiors. Tucked along a tree-lined street in Bangalore, it has quickly generated curiosity among folks of all ages, like the father-son duo looking for a school notebook and those drawn in by the unusual curation of stationery, homeware, decor, textiles and tote bags in one place. Malik and Gopal call it a “design store and an occasional gallery,” explaining that the space was created to foster community building.” Link in bio

Forget Milano, come to Bengaluru!✔️✌🏽 Thank you @disegnojournal @darshitaagoyal for telling the story of our little shop with big dreams 🏡 Enjoy with a cuppa ☕️ “I’m always impressed by the street food cart that is parked opposite General Items,” explains Gopal. “It is a circular flat-pack model — the food is made on the cart, the plates come out of it, they are used, then washed, and put back in. It all happens in a symphony.” For their first-year anniversary, the store had a party with fried snacks catered by this same cart, in turn celebrating a style of design that has long existed in the place where they themselves have recently opened. To be reminded that inspiration exists all around us, often in expressions that we have long taken for granted, makes for an exciting proposition.’ Issue #41 is out now, get your copy via @disegnojournal ❤️

We are back with our latest session of Weekends at General Items this Sunday — a special conversation and reading 📗❤️ Manju Sara Rajan (@manjusararajan ), editor-in-chief of Beautiful Homes (@beautifulhomes.india ), and Ritesh Uttamchandani (@riteshuttamchandani ), photographer and bookmaker, will reflect on the making of ‘The Way We Live’, the first publication by the digital design platform. TWWL is a book about the poetics of everyday life. A spinoff from the platform’s video series, the book looks at the simple gestures of our spaces, the practical, the daily. The book is not for sale; it is a limited release and will be distributed during this gathering. If you’re keen to understand the tectonics of a photo book, and how it comes together, to chat and introspect about the idea of home, or just for a meet-greet-and-book-grab then please DM us to secure the very limited spots. Date: Sunday, 22nd March
Time: 11:30AM - 12:30PM

Good things come in small packages 📦 We did a good thing at INDIA ART FAIR 2026 (@indiaartfair ) — our first flat-pack shop, in under 300 square feet. Designed to be put up and taken down with equal ease, our 4-day pop-up was created to be completely reusable, with no parts going to landfill. Designed by Kumar La Noce (@kumarlanoce ) and fabricated by Tiipoi (@tiipoi ) in collaboration with Ceramed Engineers, Bangalore, the structure is made up of metal sections that are simply bolted together. Tarp sheets, cut to size, offered another layer of interest whilst providing a backdrop to the products and some shade from the winter sun. Where are we heading next with our little shop? 🏡❤️ 📸: Lokesh Dang (@lokesh.dang @studiolokeshdang )

We are back with the latest session of our ‘Meet the Maker’ series, part of SHOWCASE 02: Viewpoint. Joining us this Sunday is Anurag Banerjee (@banerjee.anurag ), a contemporary photographer and author of one of our best-selling books at @generalitems.in – The Songs of Our People. This photobook documents the vibrant yet isolated music scene in Meghalaya. Anurag will share his journey as a photographer through the lenses of identity, belonging, and love. He will discuss how The Songs of Our People represents a culmination of his journey in reclaiming Shillong as his place of origin, accompanied by readings from both volumes of the book. DM us to book a slot 📕🖤 Date: Sunday, 1st March
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 PM Our friend Kento (@lambee_curry ) from Japan, currently in India developing his own masala chai kit, will be pouring fresh cups of chai for everyone joining us ☕️

Over a year ago, General Items (@generalitems.in ) stretched out into the skeleton of a former school-provisions store in Ulsoor. This clutch-size modern retail store co-founded by two city girls — sourcing consultant Malini Malik (@malinimalik ) and Tiipoi’s Spandana Gopal (@tiipoi ) — stocks “objects that bring joy through utility and elevate the rituals of daily life.”  For their Showcase 02: Viewpoint, they’ve launched three new categories: pantry, fashion and wellness besides their already existing ones of home and accessories. We dropped into this little shop and picked a few of our favourite items.  For the full story behind the latest refresh at General Items, sign up to the Luru newsletter. From asking a Virgin Atlantic pilot to smuggle a View-Master from America, to making in-store sales while concrete render was being slapped onto our walls, to persuading a sign painter to finish our sign on time (mostly by painting it ourselves)—after which he wanted to employ us. All in a days work for our second showcase at General Items ❤️ Showcase 2: Viewpoint is now open. Come on in and enjoy the view 👁️ Tue–Sun | 12 PM–8 PM | 24, Gangadhara Chetty Rd, Bangalore - 42 🏡 📸: @bhavyapansari
