I'm taking on the challenge of building a 1:1 replica of Eddie Van Halen’s legendary 1978 pedalboard— but there’s a catch. I'm not using a single piece of vintage gear. Instead, I'm recreating the entire signal chain using only modern reissue pedals and EVH signature effects to see if I can match essence of his iconic tone. Not only will you see the build process, the tones, and how this rig stacks up with me (poorly) playing some EVH-inspired riffs, but I'll be giving it away the entire pedalboard during the 2026 NAMM Show! Sometimes I have to occasionally play ampless and keep things compact, especially when we have to fly to shows. Thanks to @gatorcases , I can fit my entire fly rig into two cases, the Dual Mini Vault and Titan Series.
Some people like to rip on amp sims, but I back em, especially the @walrusaudioeffects ACS1. Real amps will always be a part of my main rig, but since I can’t have amps at every show, this more than does the trick.
