Gardenside Brewing’s exterior connects people and landscape, with a street-facing plaza, garden-side seating, and a pergola that extends the brewery into the outdoors. The reimagined prefabricated metal building anchors the space while opening the interior to light, greenery, and community. Outdoors, the @jimastudio -designed landscape weaves in a range of native plants that root the project firmly in its Southeast Michigan context. 🌿🍻

So what’s the Idea?
We looked at typical elements of breweries and explored how we could tweak them to highlight our values, in particular our desire to harmonize with our surroundings. We knew we wanted to have a mug club-like program at Gardenside and thought that instead of having our customers buy their way in, that we could instead ask them to volunteer with non-profit organizations in the area.
How can I Get Involved?
In the lead up to Gardenside’s opening (and beyond), we will be partnering with organizations on service projects that benefit Core City and greater Detroit. Our kickoff event will take place on March. 29th in collaboration with St. Patrick’s Senior Center. Sign up to join via the link in our bio. Those who attend these service projects will get a chance to sample experimental Gardenside drinks and get invites to future insider events.
To Wrap it Up
Stay tuned for more upcoming events. Shrub Club is one of many elements of Gardenside that we hope demonstrate our goal of being a community-oriented business. If you have ideas on how we can improve the program or would like to suggest a non-profit organization for us to partner with, please reach out to us via Instagram or email - [email protected]
At the bar at Gardenside Brewing, flowerpot pendant lights illuminate your choices from a rotating selection of local, artisan-brewed beers and non-alcoholic options. The *hacked* pre-fab structure is made cozy, warm, and uniquely Gardenside with earthy green and poppy purple tile. Even on the darkest days of our Michigan winters (looking at you, January 24th), Gardenside brings light and levity. It’s a bold composition of material, hue, and texture—designed to be as vibrant as the conversations it will hold. 🍻🌱

A milestone in inclusive design: Gardenside Brewing will feature one of Detroit’s first formally approved gender-neutral multi-stall restrooms. Because an all-gender restroom isn’t allowed by current codes, our team compiled research and precedents to make a compelling case for a building code appeal. Thoughtfully detailed for privacy, accessibility, and shared use, the resulting design balances code compliance with a welcoming, dignified experience. Beyond the entrance, the unique custom tiled planters create a welcoming green foyer. It’s a small footprint with a big impact on how our built environment can better serve everyone. 🍻🌱

END Studio’s custom designed tiled planters are part of what make this Core City space uniquely Gardenside, blurring the line between garden and brewpub. Covered in tile and integrated directly into the architecture, these planters bring greenery to the center of the space, reinforcing the project’s connection to nature, sustainability, and community gathering. 🍻🌱

First Look 👀 Gardenside Brewing’s interior blends warmth, color, sustainability, and craft to create a space that feels both lively and grounded. We hacked the design of this pre-fabricated structure to create a dramatic, light-filled taproom, offering a direct connection to the surrounding landscape and the Core City neighborhood. Inside, earthy green tile and renewable cork wall coverings reinforce the connection to nature, while swaths of color, custom wisteria-inspired pendants, and modular planters complete the inviting atmosphere. Rooted in sustainability and shaped by community, the design creates an inviting place to linger — from first pour through last light. 🍻🌱

Back to back garden parties. Great summer, flavorful, notes of lavender and Thai basil, no bitter aftertaste. Would try again.
And yes, Aryeh is signing marriage documents. It’s all about love at Gardenside.

GARDEN PARTY PART ONE, my friends at @gardensidebrewing invited me to shoot a lil film and taste a few of their brews. It was a lovely time with some delicious beer, and a bit of screen printing. You should all go visit them when they open.

Meet the Gardenside Team!
Jack Jeffrey is the Founder, Head Brewer, and Visioneer of Gardenside. Frequently found eating vegetables directly out of the garden, Jack is inspired by the garden and nature’s beauty. An engineer by training, brewing blends his scientific mind with the art of blending flavor and creating balance.
Kyle Richardson serves as the Planner and Project Organizer for Gardenside. He loves creating community, building things and dreaming big. Gardenside is at the intersection of all of those things, so he’s thrilled to be a part of bringing it into the world. A planner at heart, he wants to do his part to bring Gardenside to fruition.
Aryeh Perlman rounds out the Gardenside team as our Community Organizer and Lead Creative for Gardenside. He has a passion for local arts and culture, as well as food and drink. Aryeh enjoys organizing events and bringing people together. He values creativity, collaboration, and when everyone is having a good time. He also home brews beer taking inspiration from food and N/A beverages.
The three members of the Gardenside Team met playing Ultimate Frisbee in Detroit and quickly bonded over their shared love for great food and drink, nature, and the Detroit community. Together they hope to create a business that truly serves the Detroit community, puts an emphasis on harmonizing with nature, and offers familiar and unexpected food and drinks to delight people of all sorts.
