Last month, we had the honor of attending *Detroit Cosmologies* at MOCAD—an incredible retrospective celebrating the work of our client @mbadafricanbeadmuseum Detroit artist, storyteller, and cultural historian Olayami Dabls. The exhibition felt like a homecoming: a layered, immersive experience that echoes the spirit of the MBAD African Bead Museum (founded by Dabls in 1994) and invites us to see Detroit through a cosmological lens—part memory, part invention, and ongoing cultural renewal. Grateful to witness how art can hold history, ritual, and community all at once—and to be reminded that development (in every form) is about stewardship, legacy, and care. #DetroitCosmologies #MOCAD #OlayamiDabls #DetroitArt #BlackCulturalLegacy

Here’s a potential 🚩that can come up when doing your due diligence and pulling a title report on a property. If a lis pendens appears on a title report, there may be a title dispute, a claim against the property, or an ongoing lawsuit. These issues can often be resolved with the help of a consultant or attorney, so you can move forward with clear title on your property! #jumiglossary #urbandevelopment #predevelopment

Happy Earth 🌍 Day! 🌱There are many ways to produce sustainably, and we wanted to share a few of our clients’ efforts in contributing to a sustainable Detroit! 🌱Each project is progressing with thoughtful, community-centered decisions that support long-term neighborhood stability. 🌱 From rehabbing existing housing to activating vacant land and designing with justice at the forefront, the work starts long before construction begins. Sustainability is stewardship!

Last month, we had the pleasure of joining our client Designing Justice+ Designing Spaces for a project strategy meeting with funders, financiers, and community partners. Through an innovative and collaborative game, we explored creative ways to finance development phases, offering a creative way to engage attendees in the complexities of predevelopment financing and its need for strategic flexibility.

“In a moment of crisis, the wise build bridges and the foolish build damns.” ✨ In real estate development, that means using due diligence, contingency planning, and transparent communication to keep projects moving forward when surprises hit, instead of rushing decisions that create costly delays later.

This Women’s History Month, let’s ask, what happens when we plan without women in mind? We get spaces that exclude, by design or by default. Designing with care starts by asking better questions, because care is infrastructure, not an afterthought. Who is this space truly serving? Is it safe at night, walkable, and connected to transit? Is it accessible to elders and disabled communities? Are there gaps we can responsibly fill? Is there space for youth, for childcare, for gathering? When we design for women, we design for everyone💡 #WomensHistoryMonth #UrbanPlanning #DesignJustice #InclusiveCities

Let’s be clear: everyone deserves to be a stakeholder. When taking on development projects, be mindful that the work extends beyond capital. If we center the people—families, caregivers, youth, and neighbors who live with the outcome, we shift the conversation and welcome them as investors who are equally important. As you move forward and put your project into the world, we invite you to ask: ☝🏾Who is in the room? ☝🏿Who can’t make it? ☝🏽How do we make space for them? Because projects built *with* community last longer than those built around them.
