Upcoming exhibition: Brighton Made
A solo show of works by Enzo Marra (@enzomarraart ). Each having been executed in his time in Brighton, largely from found materials, sourced and stored until their purpose arose. Painted, drawn, assembled, they each show different directions the artist is drawn towards. Their contained themes arising as they developed. Having studied and lived in Brighton much too many years ago, Enzo still keeps a connection to the people and spirit of the place.
A rarely possible opportunity to experience a self curated show which spans very different bodies of work, the artist’s voice visible in the selection and arrangement of them. The freedom of its original premise allowing for his personally appreciated but unseen creative endeavours, to be allowed that potent time to then be seen and considered
Preview: Fri 15th May, 6.30-9pm
Open: 15th - 26th May, 10am-5pm

Last day of ‘in View of my Window’ today at @gallery19a . Gallery open 10am-5pm.
A situ photo by @lydia_stonehouse_ and then a couple of photos of me giving a very informal artist talk last Friday evening. Huge thanks to all who came along and supported me.
Big up to @gallery19a . It’s been such a lovely and welcoming artist run gallery to exhibit with. Thank you especially to @rachelmaryentwistle and @ar.chie.art for making me feel at home 🙏🙏. It might be out the way, but it has a strong community ethos and and interesting roster of exhibitions. It’s been nice to show my paintings here.. Do go and visit!

Open now: In View of My Window
A selection of wonderful and curious paintings by Julie Annis, are currently on show at Gallery 19a. Developed from observational drawings of her local Downland landscape, these paintings explore the quiet, shifting relationship between interior and exterior worlds - what is seen, remembered and felt through the act of looking.

Open until Monday 11th May, 10am-5pm

‘In view of my window’, my show of recent paintings at gallery 19a is open today until 5pm. I will be in the gallery all day and hosting a special family friendly ‘kid’s view’ today between 2-4pm.
Alongside my painting practice and working for @turpseastsussex I run after school art clubs and have three children myself. I rarely can make private views as I’m usually caught up in the throes of childcare at that critical tea-time-bed-time timing of private views, so it felt an obvious thing to create a family friendly time when children and their parents can come and view the work in a welcoming atmosphere.
The show continues until the 11th May, 10am-5pm, but will be closed Sundays and bank holiday Monday. I will be running a monoprint workshop on Wednesday 5th May. Comment below for details.
If you’d like a pdf catalogue of works, drop me a comment and I’ll be in touch.

My sister’s @julesannis_ first solo art show opened last night in Brighton at Gallery 19a.
IN VIEW OF MY WINDOW features new oil works and is rooted in daily observation of Sussex downland.
The collection explores the quiet, shifting relationship between interior and exterior worlds - what is seen, remembered and felt through the act of looking.
Julie and I have a shared fascination with this landscape.
What’s interesting to me is some of these works are painted on old bed sheets, acquired from jumble sales at village halls set under the South Downs.
The sheets themselves capture stories of lives lived in downland, imprinted with memories and dreams, love, life and death.
I’m so proud of my sister- and inspired by her work and ideas.
And it was lovely to share the Private View with family, friends and guests.
My solo exhibition ‘In view of my window’ is up and opening this evening at @gallery19a , Brighton, 6.30-8.30pm, Thursday 30th April. All are welcome to join me for the opening night.
The exhibition continues until the 11th May. I will be in the gallery this Saturday, Wednesday morning and next Saturday 9th. I will also be doing a monoprint workshop on Tuesday 8th at the gallery. Comment below for details.
Also if you would like a digital version of the catalogue, please comment below and I’ll send you one. All work is for sale.
Hope to see some of you tonight… 🌕🍷

I’m delighted to announce details of my upcoming solo show, ‘In View of My Window’, opening this May at Gallery 19a in Brighton. An exhibition of recent paintings, inspired by the landscape I live in.
You are warmly invited to the Private View on Thursday 30th April, 6.30–8.30pm - I would love to see you there.
The exhibition runs from 1st–11th May, Monday–Saturday, 10am–5pm.
There will also be a special Kid’s View on Saturday 2nd May, 2-4pm - a relaxed and welcoming space for younger visitors to engage with the work. I am a mum of three and I run after school art clubs for primary aged children so I have a lot of kids in my life. I wanted to make sure there was a time when children (and their parents) could feel especially invited to the exhibition and at ease in the gallery at a family friendly time. All welcome.
