Beatrice Moumdjian’s work unearths traces spanning the Armenian Genocide, exile in Bulgaria, and migration to East Berlin in the 1990s, linking biography and geopolitics.
She deals with cultural continuities and their ruptures, borrowing from bureaucratic and archaeological methods, with reference to her origins in Eurasia – the Balkan and the so-called “Orient”. She was born 1986 in socialist Sofia, Bulgaria into her mother’s Armenian family and in 1994 obtained German citizenship in the former East Berlin using a birth certificate secured through a bribe to the Bulgarian national intelligence service DS.

A big weekend of the mowe festival has just passed, and it left me with a feeling I had honestly been searching for, for a long time.
On Saturday, we walked through Wedding together, tracing memories, collecting fragments from everyday life, and reflecting on gentrification, displacement, and urban memory through walking and mapping.
Feeling incredibly grateful to @galeriewedding and the @mowe_festival for making this happen, and to everyone who came and shared the experience with us. It was such a special day, and I know I’ll carry it with me for a long time.
And thank you to all my friends who supported me throughout this process in different ways. Special thanks to my supporting sisters @extremelyilgin and @taangeerineee heart is full🤍

Mit Farben, Stoffen und Fantasie erschaffen wir fantastische Kreaturen, die den Raum bevölkern – einst verborgen, nun sichtbar, lebendig im Spiel zwischen Kunst, Wissenschaft und Imagination.
