Maja ∀. Ngom transforms the interior of galeria skala into a space of objects and sound. The artist revisits memories of her upbringing and themes related to her heritage, creating a platform for the representation of memory. She constructs this platform through linguistic associations, intertwining them with speculative fiction centered on a collective future.
The exhibition is co-financed by OmenaArt Foundation, the Culture Department of the City of Poznań and the Culture Department of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship with headquarters at the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship in Poznań and partnered with Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art, Słupsk & Ustka.

At Galeria Skala in Poznań, Amsterdam-based artist Levi van Gelder presents Ötza, Offshore—a multi-media exhibition where a 5,300-year-old Neolithic mummy writes fan fiction, evades taxes, and queers the archive.
Ötza is not a person but a practice. A cryodesiccated fanfiction writer from the Neolithic, a self-proclaimed connoisseur of post-historical theory-fiction, she is the drag adaptation of Ötzi the Iceman that Levi van Gelder has been developing through performance, writing, sculpture, and video. Her signature features include long blonde hair—briefly replaced by a platinum bob in chapter III—a natural lip flip, and a pronounced thigh gap that persists regardless of the increasingly hard-to-hide traces of decay on her complexion. @levi_vangelder@galeriaskala@danielkoniusz

“But it was just too damn cold”.
We are thrilled to extend Levi van Gelder’s exhibition Ötza, Offshore curated by Kuba Bąk until February 28th.
On this occasion we are also spreading the word about Kuba Bąk’s Tour which will take place on February 15th Sunday at 6 PM.
“CHAPTER 7 The Prehistoric Hut: Seasonal Enterprises at the Open Air Museum for Natural History in Santa Ana
Ötza was always cold when doing her shift in the prehistoric hut. A weird draft always pushed through the wicker rooftop, which seemed permanently chilly no matter the season. Even when the scorching sun of LA summer seemed but a degree away from lighting the little hut ablaze—like a puny ant being burned alive by an evil tax-avoidant toddler with a magnifying glass—even then the steamy air would filter through the faux-neolithic thatch, and come out magically freezing on the other side.
She sat on a low foldable stool, low enough for it to be invisible if she crossed her legs, so people would think she was sitting on the floor like a real hutdweller. She reluctantly zipped up her hoodie a little bit higher. She preferred to have it open, because she was wearing her favorite t-shirt underneath. But it was just too damn cold.” @levi_vangelder

The exhibition features 6 new or new-ish chapters of fanfiction in which Ötza searches for ancillary incomes, financial optimization strategies, and tax havens. This pursuit brings her to LARPing shifts in an open air museum of natural history in Santa Ana; to an insurrectionary, post-Marxist, post-situationist silent yoga retreat at the French–Italian border; to Litchfield women’s penitentiary; to a double date with the Bogdanoff twins; to the 2017 World Economic Forum in Davos; and ultimately, to court.
If you want to read the chapters: I will publish the first two on Substack kind of now. True HG’s already know the first one, but it’s a revised version. Don’t fret: she still negotiates to get her Harry Styles 4skin t-shirt from the museum, but now she’s also learning Basque on Duolingo while doing it. The second all new, and kind of stunty if I say so myself. Wordless revolt at the Tiqqun silence and yoga retreat, at least until she is pulled away from her class by an employee with a disturbing message…
A huge thanks to @d0m1h0yl3 and @danielkoniusz from @galeriaskala , and to @kuba697167189 for loving tax fraud as much as Ötza does!! The exhibition is on until February 14.

Ötza is a Neolithic mummy who, in her artistic practice, tries to connect the worlds of fan fiction and entrepreneurship. Her signature features are her long blonde hair (briefly replaced by a platinum bob in chapter III), her natural lip flip, and her pronounced thigh gap, regardless of her age and the increasingly hard-to-hide traces of decay on her complexion. Equally fascinating are her fan fiction pieces, in which Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte meet semantics, and a post-Marxist, posthumanist revolt takes on a mute form in a yogic silent retreat inspired by the magazine Tiqqun.
Ötza fights the regime of truth in her work, in her biography, and in courtrooms alike. After a not-too-successful trial for tax fraud and copyright infringement, she does not cease searching for ancillary incomes and tax havens. While the richest 1% tend to place their assets in Caribbean companies and offshore funds, the mummy, who must spend a significant part of her time in a cryogenic chamber, looks for colder places. Perhaps the journey to this tax Arcadia, which is just beginning at Poznań’s galeria skala, will one day end in her own museum in a fiscally friendly Swiss village nestled among Alpine glaciers.
