We started Currents 12: Camping Out over a year ago with a half-serious question - what if we just went camping and made that into a show? We spun that weird little idea into a proposal, selling our dream of camping throughout the process of making an exhibition to
@jestergenk and its institutional partners. Think, for instance, how far below budget we would land if we didn’t need to sleep in hotels! Always with the idea that we would camp, first with just the two of us during visits to thirteen graduation shows last summer, then with the artists we selected, at Jester. And finally with the audience, whom we would invite to slow down the hurried, consumerist experience of seeing art with us. With the addition of chili and cornbread which is objectively speaking the best camping food. So it was very special indeed to round off this year of camping out together with
@liselore.bulcke who led campers in a forest bathing and DIY-printmaking workshop, and
@clairesillekens and her collaborator
@karabomaisela_ , who activated Claire’s installation through a gentle improvisation workshop. And with
@maxence.duterne who showed us how to commandeer a commercial label printer to spark the revolution. All our gratitude to the artists, campers, dear
@letokeunen and Patrizia for being the most wonderful hosts and for ordering 50 croissants for camping breakfast. And to the sun for blazing and the storm for being spectacular and blowing over quickly. Here’s hoping we can do it again 🏕️🐾
