This Friday, @revelations_of_divine_love kicks off its theatrical run at @anthologyfilmarchives ! Revelations is a testament to communal, scrappy, DIY filmmaking. We shot across handmade sets in a Ridgewood warehouse, an eclectic Pennsylvania museum and under an eclipse at Plumb Beach! 5 DAYS TIL OPENING AT @filmforumnyc !! Sharing another glimpse from @familiartouch prep. The last step in how @steph.osin.cohen @gabecelder and I prepare for our days on set: we combine Steph's set renderings, Gabe and my shotlist, and my blocking notes into overhead diagrams (thanks to @gabecelder the diagrammatic 🤴who actually makes these for us!) These diagrams represent the whole film, room-by-room.

@familiartouch will have its NY premiere as the opening night film of New Directors / New Films 2025 at @filmlinc and @themuseumofmodernart We have been eagerly awaiting the film’s homecoming, and there is no venue more meaningful. Seven years ago, @_motionxpictures @steph.osin.cohen and I premiered our first film together at the 47th ND/NF. It was around the same time that I first read the script for Familiar Touch. To return to ND/NF at all brings us full circle. That the film has been invited to play opening night is humbling beyond words. The Movement Exercises trilogy is screening this Friday, Dec 9 at @mayslesdocumentarycenter ! The trilogy comprises three films that I shot with director Sarah Friedland @_motionxpictures : Home Exercises (2017), Drills (2020), and Trust Exercises (2022) I am very excited to see all of them together for the first time! — Trust Exercises — The third and final film of the Movement Exercises trilogy will premiere at @thenyff 60! Trust Exercises is a film that revolves around one of my favorite subjects: Collaboration. Specifically, collaborative motion and its potential for catharsis and safety but also control and trauma. Making the film was itself an intentional experiment in collaboration; on finding better ways of working collectively in mediums (film +dance) with poor track records. — Sacred Sheets — Part cinema, part performance, and part ritual, this project defies easy categorization. Filmed over three days last November, “Sacred Sheets” is a collaboration with artists Maria Molteni @strega_maria and Allison Halter. It is one element of their new show at @fruitlandsmuseum , Unseen Hours: Space Clearing for Spirit Work. The film is centered around a Shaker gift drawing, rendered in meticulously crafted paper brush strokes. The show, and our work on the film was curated and facilitated by the visionary and generous Shana Dumont Garr @shaygarmont I’m continually grateful to Maria and Allison for the depth and richness of our collaboration. It’s a rare thing to be invited in so completely to someone’s practice and I feel all the wiser for it. There is much, much more to be said about this project but I can’t do it justice here. If you’d like to see the film and the show, they will be up until March, 2022 at Fruitlands museum, which is also a fascinating destination in its own right!

— God and the Tornado — In the before-times, I shot a documentary that is now premiering on @topicstories . Directed by @joshbullockwritesandfilms , the film is an exploration of deadly storms, told by those who survived them. In the American South, tornados often come at night, and without warning. In recent years, they have become more frequent and more destructive. Every person we interviewed reckoned with this incomprehensible power differently. And yet, each shared with us a very human need to find meaning in the awesome. Josh has woven these testimonies into a film that is simultaneously empathetic and haunting. ‘The Sparks Brothers’ is coming to theaters June 18th! In 2017, @athenapronoia took me to see a band I had never heard of, @sparks_official . I went home with a Hippopotamus balloon animal and a new-found admiration for the Brothers Mael 👽👽. A few days later, they played the El Rey in LA. At that show, @edgarwright mused out loud that they were “The greatest, most influential band not to have a documentary about them”. A year or so after that, the incomparable @henckenstein brought me onto the project for some of the most memorable and joy-filled days I’ve had behind a camera.  I am proud and utterly grateful to have played a very small part in this opus. Ron and Russel have been making music together for over five decades, and the film skillfully captures both the massive scope of their career and the satisfying details of their ever-shifting catalogue. They’re a band that’s always changing, but also exactly the same as when they started. Huge congrats and thanks to George, Edgar, @jakepolonsky @leojt @richiestarzec and everyone else!

— List of Demands — This is a really special one. I met @williethegenius at a Vigil in Bushwick hosted by @guanabana.nyc and I will always be grateful for that community space because SO MANY amazing collaborations came out of it! Today the video is out for the bounce track “List of Demands”. We filmed the music video at the Black Lives Matter Mural in Bed-Stuy with an absurdly talented cohort of filmmakers, dancers, and revolutionaries.
