Had so much fun running this direct animation workshop @embassygallery last weekend as part of their Biscuit Tin Artist’s Moving Image Festival which is on this weekend ! Go and catch the great lineup of films there from this evening and possibly see some snippets of what we got up to in the workshop 🎞️ Here’s a couple of tiny snippets but we will hopefully get the films scanned at some point to have a better look at them. Thanks to everyone who came and hope you had fun, the results were brilliant :) And big thank you to @ohvmezger for the last minute projector !! Flicker / strobe warning for the clips ⭐️

Some photos of ‘the blinking at the start of the day’, my installation for the postgraduate degree show at @glasgowschoolart - still open to the public until 6pm on 7th September 🪲 It brings together experiments in analogue filmmaking, interactive media, text and sculpture to explore the experience of closeness, you can read more about it on my degree showcase page linked in my bio 📄 The product of a year of developing my work on the @gsafineartpractice course - come and see irl so you can get close to the films (kind of the whole point) 👅

So excited to properly announce the event I’ve programmed as part of my fellowship with @weareayafilms @wecurateit and part of CineAstra Film Festival in Glasgow. ⭐️’Light Touches’ is a programme of short films which explore the affective, sensory nature of film through a lens of personal reflections and collective experiences. Each consider in different ways the entanglement of body and film, emotion and sensation, and how to capture the felt experience of life through the act of filmmaking. How do we feel our way physically and emotionally through the world, and how is this translated into + onto film? ✨The in-person screening will take place Saturday 28th October (next saturday) 2-4pm @transmissionglasgow . The films will also be available online for 48 hours via the Curate-It platform. Tickets are available via the link in my bio: it’s pay what you can and all of the ticket sales will go to Medical Aid Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Gaza Emergency Appeal 🇵🇸 ⭐️Following the screening will be a very relaxed workshop in which participants can play with 8mm film. Each person will receive a stretch of film to do whatever they want with. These will then be collected at the end (unless you want to keep it!) to create one collaborative reel which responds to ideas from the films. 🎥 Featured films: - A Month of Single Frames Dir. Lynne Sachs, Barbara Hammer (@lynnesachs1 @barbarahammer1 ) -We know a better word than happy Dir. Helen McCrorie (@helenmccrorie ) -Colour Poems Dir. Margaret Tait (@margarettait_filmpoet ) -The Image that Spits, the Eye that Accumulates Dir. Rhea Storr (@rheastorr ) -A Love Dir. Anne-Marie Copestake (@annamarielatha ) -The Forest of Everything Dir. Wendy Kirkup, Richy Carey (@kirkupwendy @richy_carey ) Hope to see your lovely faces there :)

Introducing the filmmakers for SCORE 07 Esme Haddrill Selman is an artist filmmaker working with the moving image as the central point of her practice. She works mostly with analogue filmmaking processes, at times also using found footage alongside her own to create new connections and relations between people, place and time. Her practice often focuses on the act of personal filmmaking and, alongside experimental film, she has also produced interactive, installation and sculptural work. Here are some words from Esme about her process for putting work together for next week’s night. “For SCORE 07, I’ve put together some ongoing experiments working with text, found footage and my own super 8 footage. This has been part of a collaboration with my close friend and art writer Maisie Wills, looking at the relationship between image and text, and what it means to combine film and writing through personal correspondence. The act of stitching different lives together through found images has also opened up new ways of understanding my own footage, and I have been continuing to play with direct animation through painting/writing straight onto film. I’m really excited to see the result of mixing these experiments with a live score :)” Tickets for SCORE are available now via the link in our bio Music by @chizunnamdi Films by @fuzzsoup

Running a workshop this Sunday at the wonderful @embassygallery as part of their Biscuit Tin Festival where we will be trying out some direct animation techniques onto found 8mm footage. It’s a chance to try out some experimental DIY filmmaking and think about what it means to work with physical found footage/celluloid generally. Hopefully we will be able to watch back our work on the projector at the end of the workshop as well so you can see how it looks in motion! For any level of experience, please come along :) 07.12.25 2-4pm 7 Ferry Road, Leith event is free but ticketed check my bio for the link 🔗 Still is from a disintegrating found film bought on eBay 🕯️
