@pedalthepacific .- It’s been ten years since this movement first rolled from Seattle to San Diego, speaking loudly against sex trafficking. Now, a bunch of that crew is back together again, this time simply for the joy of riding bikes, reconnecting with old friends, and getting lost through some of the most beautiful islands in the PNW. Huge thanks to @fuzz_faced and crew for helping big time with routes, bikes, and all the local knowledge needed to navigate this territory. And @mattel234 … dude, you’ve been part of this story for years now. Seeing the shop’s name on the van was pretty damn cool (thanks girls for including us 🤙🏼). Have fun out there, enjoy this beautiful side of the country, and ride safe 🚐🚴🏼‍♀️🎀

See Yourself Here - be drawn into a space to explore your place. You are invited to a very special weekend with our guests including Paperclips.cc (@thepaperclip.cc ), Our Mother the Mountain (@omtm.cc ) and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (@evergreenmtb ) for a look into the curious culture of Cascadian cycling. With a fascination for imagery that sees us in the misty morning roll call, acoustic wits, full spectrum ruminations in exquisite tectonics, and relations both intimate and vast, our show celebrates shared flow states and the peculiar awe of the Cascadian cycling experience. As a postcard from our guests and hosts at @railspur.seattle , we’ll ignite the imagination with an evening of MingleVision - photo show, custom bicycles, trail stewardship, and inspiration for exploration. Light snacks provided. We’ll follow up on Friday by hopping aboard the mid-morning Kingston Fast ferry for some cat’s play of riding bikes on and off road in the North Kitsap woods with friends. When - (I) Thurs Dec 4th - See Yourself Here, RailSpur, 5-9pm. Snacks provided. (II) Fri Dec 5th Thee Peculiar Other North Kitsap Peninsula bike ride – social to follow where our hosts will serve up inspiration and motivations to explore deeply. Where - 119 S Jackson St *all prints will be available for purchase with a portion of sales going to support the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance #pnwcycling #upperleftcoast #pioneersquareartwalk #pioneersquare #railspurseattle #notbackonitstillonit #communityfirst #tastylittlerideseries #seattlecyclist

Not just a couple guys who got the yellow beanie memo, smash on farm-fresh foods, dial in tire pressure for their homies, hoot aloud from the woods and mountain tops, always make some QT with their fathers, have a deep appreciation for the Old Things that came before them, and stand around basking in the yellow light of the amazing @railspur.seattle stairwell. Nope, but heck yeah.

“Fastpacking” the Oregon Outback was a consolation outing for some of us who looked to deploy our preparations along the cancelled (due to fire damage) Big Lonely race event. It’s a bit of a different animal than the central OR tour, but it does include a few select overlapping areas and offered us a chance to send it across the length of the great state from the south to the north. Tori enlisted another rider who was planning on a solo Outback, Liam, seemed down to clown. We agreed to a late night start from the jump in Klamath Falls. Led by a waning full moon and lots of heart, we propelled our caboodle across the OC&E primitive rail corridor. Tori, Liam & I stopped at 4am to try for some zzz’s and I was the only one who found any. We struck out into the pre-dawns early light to close the gap on Connor & Anton. It was challenging and I put a whole leg in the creek filtering water. But the sun was still with us and after burning a couple matches, I found them at the Silver Lake cafe with several empty plates of food. I had a beer and some awful food and steadied my resolve. The sleepless late night start was exacting a tariff on Tori & Liam. We arrived in Fort Rock all together and split a 6-pack of Coors. Faced with a decision, Connor, Anton & I decided to set our alarms for 12:30am and be in the route by 1:15am if we were to have any chance to make a huge dent in the work we had ahead of us. The next 160mi were awesome and whack, in equal measure. We did well to avoid some rain and climbed into the Ochocco’s with some forest coverage. We saw the damage from the fires only a short couple months ago. Legs feeling good, I pushed ahead to connect with our Rajneesh-era basecamp cabana in Antelope for respite from the rain. The peanut butter mud was developing and fastpacking did me well, but for Connor & Anton it presented very real problems. After I hacked my way into our tiny A-frame, soaked and shivering, I got the satellite text they were trapped in mud 11mi away. Wild, wild country. Successfully self-extracted, they wandered in to basecamp 2 hours later. That’s when the room really started to smell like wet dogs. (Con’t in comments)

Last week, we hosted a two-day wheel building course at the Clubhouse, led by Ben Rainbow from Back Alley Repair! Got an idea or want to host something here? We’d love to hear from you and help bring it to life. Photos by @mayawormwood @fuzz_faced

Wrapped up our second Handbuilt Wheels Workshop 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼. Both Peter & Carter came in with no previous wheel building experience, but tons of riding experience and much respect for the craft. Over the course of 2 afternoons, they both built up and tensioned their own pair of perfectly round, true, and dished wheels with little more than my verbal cues and instructions. We asked and answered a bunch of questions and dug deep into the Wheel realms only to come away more confident and comfortable. Now, the more routine tasks such as roadside troubleshooting, truing, spoke replacement, and maintenance are part of their arsenal they bring with them on day rides as well as big time adventure. Thanks to the always top notch homies at @rapha_sea . Mad love for all that you do for our cycling community ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ Feel free to reach out for any wheel needs/wants or questions. I’m loving this workshop thing more than I could’ve imagined 😽

Our first Handbuilt Wheels Werkshoppe was a fantastic success!! We were able to cover the anatomy of wheels, measuring spoke length, principles of wheel building, differences in componentry, roadside/trailside triage, troubleshooting, best practices, and much more. The first day was lots of talking and getting our hands comfortable with tooling and understanding the importance of process. We were able to pretty much finish the front wheels. The second day, we jumped right in and built upon our familiarity to tackle rear wheels, unpacking the nuances and finer points. Before time was up, participants had built up their own wheelsets and gained confidence to understand when a wheel is completely true, round, properly dished, and evenly tensioned. I LOVED seeing faces light up with satisfaction. Tip of the cap to @jackbrace & Kevin @pinecycles for the support and to @rapha_sea for the generous use of space and delicious pizza, THANK YOU 🙏. There are 1-2 spots still available for the May workshop. HMU to secure your spot and let’s consult about your wants and needs. You can do it!!!

Love to have access to the @cheastytrails in the neighborhood for shakedowns like this. Got the @crustbikes Thereabouts/Bombora all rigged up for @ozarkdoom , leaning on my tried and true @swiftindustries & @rapha kit. In a few short days, I’m dipping my toes into a pool larger than I’ve previously attempted. Bike feels up to the challenge and I’m hungry for some mega mountain miles deep in NW Arkansas.
