Trust the process is so true.... Two years of consistent skating has gotten me from someone who could only skate forward and stop as a child, to an adult who can dance and move in multiple directions on her skates. I realize despite having previous progress reels that there are a lot of new people here lately (since my grief skate post struck a chord), so let me reintroduce myself Hi my name is Lauren or Funshine if you call me by my skate name. A little over two years ago I discovered my first adult night of skating and realized there was an entire culture of skating I didn't know about, I fell in love that very first night. I went again in March. Then I bought my own skates, and went again in April. I found skating brought me two things, immense joy, and relief from my grief of losing someone very close to me, my cousin Krystal. At the beginning of May 2024 I started taking skating lessons, and decided to hold myself accountable that I would do 365 days of skating in a row, and I decided to record my progress everyday.( New fact for those of you who have been around awhile, at first recording and watching back video was so uncomfortable for me that I often only recorded my feet.) Over the remainder of 2024 I also lost my grandmother and then my grief counselor of five years passed away, I really am grateful that I had found skating and was able to recenter myself each day that year. In time I began trying to learn what people were doing, often by recording them, and then watching the video at home and trying things from Instagram. I began making friends, and sending them recordings and posting reels to remember not just my progress, but the memories I was making. My account I hope will inspire others to learn to skate, and highlight the joy the art of skating brings to my life, but mainly I just post things here so I don't forget, the memories, the people, the progress myself. If you are new here thanks for coming and if you have been here a long time thanks for being here πŸ’œ Funshine Thanks for the inspiration of the reel @rollerscrapes @skatewiththemz #funshineskates #rollerskating #skatediary

I'm obsessed I'll never love anyone else. The journey to get these skates has been long. Thanks to Shannon for helping me bring my inspiration to reality, what a journey it has been. πŸ’œπŸ›Ό "She clutches grief in one hand joy in the other. She's been told to keep them apart, but she wonders what would happen if they touch? So she folds her palms together, just for a second, and when she opens them, she's holding a masterpiece." M. Do not let the world convince you that everything is broken. It's been a really long week and it's only Wednesday. But I'm grateful for my friends, and my family, and for living in a world that creates a sunset that looks like this. And I'm so grateful for skating. Skating forces me again and again to come back to the present moment. It feels like grounding, like meditation. Grateful for the glimmers of hope in the world. #funshineskates #rollerskating #skatediary almosttwoyears

When I first started learning to skate, I wasn't able to take classes. I could barely even stay up on my skates moving between dance moves. But when I started to learn balance, I faced another problem...imposter syndrome. I didn't think I was a skater yet because I couldn't do the moves. I wasn't calling myself a skater because of it. And I did not feel like I belonged in the community. But the friends I had made in the skate community told me another story. The people who show up. The ones who try even if they fall, the ones who keep going, those are the skaters. I started to allow myself to take up space. To fall, to fail, to learn just a little bit each time at my own pace. @flowrollchoreo classes with Suja I'm not getting the choreography in every class in class. But I allow myself to take up space. And this past class I was right next to the window. This skate along at the beginning is something I could not have done, maybe even a year ago. And now it's my favorite part πŸ’œ Keep showing up. Keep trying. You got this πŸ’œ Funshine #flowrollchoreo #danceskate #funshineskates

Honestly this is really the reason I started skating to have some relief from my grief. To come up for air. Skating has been somatic therapy for my grief and a place for joy to exist. How do you cope with moving grief through your body? Has skating or dance helped you? #rollingthroughgrief #griefandloss #somatichealing

Remember to breathe. πŸ’™ Skating as an act of joy. Trying to drown out the blue πŸ’™ these past few weeks with acts of joy. It's hard to not feel the collective grief lately, on top of your own personal grief and so living in these moments is everything to me. Friends and skating and art and dance. πŸͺ© Every moment you take to heal yourself helps heal the collective. #funshineskates #billieeilishblue
