Jamaica is a real place, built on self-reliance and dignity worth restoring.
She’s always been a body within my body. I know, I just know for sure that I’m not the only one who believes that “if she good, we good.” Right?
As the media coverage fades, my heartache grows for all that’s been lost. In the storm’s aftermath, I fear her cry will drift into the shadows of an algorithm, or worse, be rebuilt only around its coasts. We can’t forget how much this tiny place has given to the world. I won’t quit until her dignity is restored.

Jamaica is a real place, with resilience and real systems.
The road to rebuilding may be a long one, but Jamaicans are some of the most innovative people on earth.
On October 28th, Hurricane Melissa struck the western side of Jamaica as a Category 5 storm. I can only begin to imagine what certain remote communities look like. Having seen a few firsthand, many are self-sustaining and remarkably self-sufficient. Still, I don’t want to gloss over the challenges that lie ahead. True, it’s a small place, but so many around the world take notice. Jamaicans are ultimately tougher than one might expect. There is no doubt that we will rebuild and that Jamaica will once again be NICE for all who live, work, and come to visit!
