My view has been a little different this weekend.
Behind all the smooth ASO concerts is a small but mighty team that works day in and out to make sure we —the audience— are free to suspend our disbelief that make mammoth productions like the Bach Mass seem like just another night at ASO.
These people are artists in their own right and their resumes are as impressive as the people you see on stage. The difference is we don’t acknowledge them with applause or flowers.
Even with all my time as an ASO fan girl, ten years now!, it wasn’t until getting to work with these talented people that I realized just how much is involved. I grew up doing ballet and theater, the tech work there is very obvious; there are costumes and shoes and scenery and mics and multiple actors or dancers and have I mention, SHOES?! In comparison, orchestra concerts seemed technically-speaking “easy”. But let my past ignorance/naivety be a testament to the great work the staff at ASO is doing… because we all know, pros always make everything look easy. Those stands, chairs, sheet music, and crowd control doesn’t “just” happen. Maintaining a safe environment for that many people on stage and in the audience is a great endeavor that they tackle with admirable grace. I cannot say enough what a learning experience this has been. Just to be in the room with these impressive professionals is better than any masters program out there.
So today, this fan girl claps for them. The people who do all the unglamorous jobs and support the musicians so they can shine on stage.

On August 8, 2023 I wrote down “DiGiCo optocore loop can virtually remove output cards but not inputs.” This is in the event you have too many channels in use on an Optocore loop but aren’t actually using all outputs. Handy little trick to not have to physically remove any cards. However, if inputs are all that are open, you will have to physically remove the card.

God marks out the appointed times and the places; and this past weekend was no different! I was gifted with the opportunity to be in concert with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (@atlantasymphony )to play the brilliant score, How to Train Your Dragon. This was surreal for me because it is something I’ve dreamt of many times but finally came to reality. Performing live extremely beautiful and complex music in the hands of a world-class orchestra was a musical awakening I won’t soon forget. In fact, it’s the start of more to come.
