Jamie a full time firefighter and Steve a former Royal Marine signed up for the 40th anniversary @mdslegendary race to raise money for Bolton Mountain Rescue team and the Firefighters Charity and @cockleshell22 Veteran expeditions.
“It’s a brutal race and one that should not be done lightly , the environment can and will kick your arse if you don’t work with it. However I realised that the body is a truly remarkable machine and we adapted to the later stages felt surprisingly easier than expected”

New 24h record for Ben Nevis 24h Challenge of 20h 40min 40s.
On Wednesday I set of at 8pm from Ben Nevis Inn in Achintee climbing Ben Nevis as many times as I can in 24h. I completed the full 7 laps (up and down) in 20h 40min 40s.
After watching the weather for 2 weeks I made the decision to create a team. I sent out many messages and created a team just 4 days before the challenge. Sorry guys for a crazy short notice and in the middle of the week!
So this summer we are having an autumn/winter weather here in the Highlands (not a surprise really). There was a lot of uncertainty about this, but we got it, and doing it on a Wednesday gave me the advantage of less people climbing Ben Nevis which can get problematic when there is too many people on the narrow paths.
At the bottom we had Shaun (my brother-in-law) organising food/ water station and coming and going runners. Then according to the laps we had: Ruairdh Oliver-Jones, Liam Hutson, Gregor Davidson, Stuart Malcolm, Denis Prikulis, Matt Brown, Manny Gorman, Rob Hamilton, Debbie, Graham MacNab, Hillary Tysoe, Gareth and Finlay Wild. My wife Ashley was updating everyone about my progress and looking after our girls.
Conditions at the top were extreme at times with strong gusts of wind, -7°C wind chill, 1-2 feet of snow in places. Snow was melting and freezing making it very unpredictable in places and every step required extra caution. Compared to the +10°C down in the glen with no wind. Very stuffy and humid.
Everything went to plan thanks to the great coordination, communication and amazing teamwork.
The path itself is very rough on the upper half and requires a 100% focus at all times. It was hard to keep a decent pace because of the constant obstacles, the running pace was changing all the time, there was no chance for a decent rhythm.
On the last 6th lap I hit the wall and battled through my weakest moment of the whole day, thanks to Manny and Matt I got through it. On the 7th downhill I knew I will have time to try and grab the 8th full lap, it would be a very extreme push/strain on my body.
The rest in the comments .

This team of Oarsome women will row in shifts of 2 hours on 2 hours off, all day every day for over a month covering 3,000 miles from San Sebastien de la Gomera (Canary Islands) to Nelson’s Dockyard (Antigua), whilst racing an Army team for the title of fastest women’s military team to row across any ocean.
Today, on International Women’s Day we wish Izzy, Ali, Aaby, Lily-Mae and Nic all the best in the their training for the World’s Toughest Row.
ECHOES OF RESILIENCE
Last week we supported a team of Royal Marine Commandos and TV production company Galaxie Press filming Episode 4 of a new series, Mission Commando, that charts the achievements of Combined Services Command throughout World War II.
It was a privilege to help tell the story of the 12 young British and Norwegian men that took part in Operation Musketoon from 11th - 21st September 1942.
Crossing the North Sea by submarine, on arrival in Norway they attacked and damaged the Glomfjord power plant, which was closed for the rest of the war.
To evade German search parties, the commandos split into two groups. One group of four men reached Sweden and were eventually repatriated to the United Kingdom. The second group was captured; one man died of wounds and the other seven were taken to Germany, interrogated and then executed at Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Some of the first victims of Hitler’s Commando Order.
Hats off to Loz, Graeme, Jay, Kris, Steve, Chris, Jim, Jude, Naz, Wooly, Matt, Sophie, Claire and the rest of the @cockleshell22 crew for pulling this one off.
The series will come out on Canal+ and get its exclusive UK opening later in the year. Watch this space.

HEROES OF TELEMARK
We’ve spent the first week of our winter expedition season with a team of serving and veteran @royalmarines and @royalmarinesreserve Commandos crossing the Hardanger Vidda by ski.
The team have been using the latest iteration of our Extreme Cold Weather rations system as well as putting some new products through the mill.
They’re raising money for the @royalbritishlegion as well as providing a platform to enable serving and veteran personnel to take part in adventurous training and expeditions regardless of their situation.

HARD CHEESE OLD BOY 🧀
What connects Sir Edmund Hillary, Ernest Shackleton, Bernard Hinault and Neil Armstrong?
All faced tough times but ultimately went on to achieve greatness. And… they relied on cheese to achieve that greatness. Gen!
Cheese, Fromage, Ost – whatever you call it, it’s been a cornerstone of expedition and endurance nutrition for centuries. Sir Ernest Shackleton included cheese in provisions for the 1911 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition Expedition because of it’s high caloric density. Hillary and Norgay took cheese on their 1953 Everest expedition to Nepal as part of their innovative high energy diet. 5 times Tour de France winner Bernard Hinault, known as the “Badger” dominated cycling in the 1970’s on a diet rich in cheese. Even @nasa include cheese in the diet of it’s astronauts on for its nutritional value (high in to maintain muscle health and metabolism, rich in essential minerals like calcium to support bone health and muscular functions, phosphorus to support energy production and cellular repair, and zinc to support immune health and wound healing) as well as providing a comfort and familiarity.
LONG RANGE FUEL | HIGH PROTEIN CHEESE BITES are available in individual and bundles of 10 packs in store now.
