SINQA.
at the end of last year I was fortunate to be part of a short course at Photofusion. the theme I chose was ‘self’ and the final piece we worked towards was a zine. here are two of the self-portraits I chose and submitted.
i’ve been ‘self’ conscious of my appearance, specifically my nose since I was kid. I lost control of my bike and hit it against a wall and fractured it. since then i’ve struggled to love, accept, embrace it, from primary, through to secondary and all of my teenage years and early 20’s. still struggle with it sometimes but not as much as I used to because of the love, acceptance and compassion i’ve learnt to show myself and others.
for this new project I titled it ‘Sinqa’ which in Quechua means nose/nariz. i chose this indigenous word as a way of reconnecting with myself and my indigenous feature/s which I once wanted to change, hide, ignore because of fear, fear of looking different, strange, weird. this project is for my younger self, for my current self and for other fellow Andeans too as I’d like this to be a collaborative project born from a personal experience.

My first solo drawing exhibition will be held at FILET @filet_space from 30th October to 2nd November. PRIVATE VIEW is open to the public on the 30th Oct from 6PM - 9PM, come by to say hello, see the work and socialise with other creatives ✨

Happy anniversary! It’s been a year since this wonderful couple got married in LA. Thank you both for looking after us during our time there, for taking us to the best food spots, hiking, sightseeing and for all the beautiful memories. We love you guys and hope to see you again very soon!
