PICNIC ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 🧺🦋 Poem Zero
Poem Zero is a performance project led by multi-instrumentalists Justo Cisneros (@justo_cisneros ) and Shea McGilvray (@frotus ), based in San Antonio, TX. Merging Cisneros’ synthesizer work with McGilvray’s freeform saxophone and electronic processing, their live performances explore sonic thresholds and kinetic movement in real time.
Independently and collectively, their collaborations include Artpace, Co-Lab Projects, Pease Park Conservancy, and Echo Bridge, reflecting a commitment to site-responsive practices that engage place, time, and transformation. Poem Zero’s “Elegy 4” unfolds as a live act of activation and genesis, channeling Marfa’s landscape through a transportive score.

The best part of echo bridge is, the space itself is an instrument, and the flora and fauna produce 100% unique field recordings in real time, so I don’t have to prepare samples. Last time I tested it with my horn, the decay on the acoustic diffusion lasted around 7 seconds. That’s sacred architecture territory.
