On May 8, 2007 fire burned nearly 900 acres, and threatened several structures including the Griffith Observatory. This photo was taken from the Crystal Springs roadway once the Park was reopened.

During @hawks.kids new educator training at Fern Dell, our group spotted two owlets, a pregnant mule deer and this beautiful gopher snake. All incredible wildlife encounters we can share with our explorers.
Earth Day in Action 🌎
In honor of Earth Day, high school students from Immaculate Heart and Loyola teamed up for a day of service at Griffith Park. Working with Friends of Griffith Park, they learned about the park’s history and how to identify invasive species, then rolled up their sleeves for trail maintenance and park clean up. After a full day of service, students returned to campus for a well-earned picnic.
Guided by Loyola’s motto of “men for and with others” and Immaculate Heart’s focus on “great heart, right conscience,” the day reflected our shared commitment to service.

Seeing these bush sunflowers spreading across the Anza Native Garden makes us so happy... and both natives and European bees are taking advantage of the honey they can garner from this garden...

Today was about more than just hiking.
We partnered with @rei , @alltrails , and @friendsofgriffithpark for a trail stewardship day in Griffith Park. Removing invasive plants and learning what it really takes to take care of the trails we use every week.
Shoutout to @burritoexpresspasadena and @alfredosfruits for keeping everyone fueled, and to everyone who showed up — especially the 5AM Crew.
